Good find, Got a couple of those myself from 68-69. They must be a bit larger as the Al and plastic canisters fit inside.

Spent a year at Fort Devens in 64-65. First went to EAM school then after finishing pulled permanent KP for 7 months while waiting on various security clearances before being sent to Fort Mead Maryland. I thanked God every day that I spent 4 years stateside.

recognize this? Cleaning out the house in preparation for selling it so we can move to Florida permanently, and came across it while cleaning. The quality of them were never very good, and this one is really showing it’s 55 years. And, yes, that is one of my jungle fatigue shirts that is acting as the backdrop. And, NO, it doesn’t fit anymore. LOL! I could say it’s too big, but we all would know I’m lying………..

‘65 - ‘66 in Vietnam. I had a couple of those, maybe 3, but non of them had anything printed on them. Used them for several years after that. Don’t know if any of them are still around… haven’t shot any film in many years.

I have been going thru some old pictures looking for some I remember taking in Vietnam but just can’t locate… so far.

I have lived in several places in FL, over the years… my favorite the panhandle. Last move for us was away from FL to middle GA. Hope the move and house sale goes well for you.

The nearby Pawn shops (Fayetteville, NC) had some of them in their shops. I bought a Topcon Uni with several of the holders on the straps back in 1970. One of them is in one of my boxes in the garage. They were handy for my canisters of hand loaded 35mm film. Lot more easily handled than the medal ones.

Hey Andy,

I was at Devens too. Back in 1972, S

Shemya in 1973, and back to Devens in 1974-1978. I was a 33C and 33S. What did you do there?

This is a current photo of the ASA Charlie Company barracks. It now houses civilian company offices and the Fort Devens Museum. Room 305 was my room back in 1972.

Hey Vantheman,

I was in Augsburg too in 1978-1980. I served on the USASA MAIT team there as a 33S. What were you doing in Augsburg?

In 1969 I was at that army base for a 3 month temporary duty station. Could go anywhere but the criptic section. Only had a 1A security clearence. When someone was leaving we had to clear out the dispensary so the could debrief the solder. I did X-ray. Down the road was the Air Force base that housed the B52's that bombed Viet Nam. The rest of the time I I was stationed in Bangkok.

Danang '65-66 Did not wish to spend 4 years of service in Bangor, Maine. Volunteered for Vietnam and orders came right away. Remember the film canisters.

Forgot to mention in my previous post that they had a MARS Station on the base. They let me call home a few times. I also remember that there was Thai communists would circle the base at night. They also could have taken over the command center at the front gate but never did. There was only two Thai guards stationed at the front door that could have been taken out easily. I think the doctor in the dispensary wanted to keep me there cause he liked how I operated the X-ray room. I also remember that was the year Joe Nameth won the superbiwl.

I served from '68-87 in USAF. I missed Vietnam and was sent to Germany for 4 years. Serviced in a TacRecce Squadron. It was interesting and a challenge but enjoyed most of it.

Thank you for your service! I was too young for Nam. I recognize the zippered film roll holder.

Firstly, thank you for your service and for posting this image.

Recently, I was in Vietnam for a photo tour. The heat and humidity were killers and I thought I wouldn't make it to finish the trip. All I could think of was how our military personnel survived in their fatigues and boots. Must have been brutal...and of course this was the least of their problems. Taking a 9 hour boat ride up the Mekong Delta, I was able to witness all the growth hiding people and villages along the way.

Not nearly enough credit given to the men and women who served in this war.

Thank you, thank you.
Bonnie

Was stationed at an Army Security Agency. It was outside Augsburg at a town named Gerstophen. What I did is still classified (one of those “cradle to grave”) jobs. My wife of 52 years still doesn’t know what I did.
