I consider the S23 with 128GB is the base model. It's not the S23 Plus or S23 Ultra or have more memory than 128GB.
The same thing with the Iphone 14. I consider the base model Iphone 14 not the Plus or the Pro or the Pro Max.

"Kinda" is the operative word here. If you have no need of the integration the Apple system offers, then I agree with you, any Android phone will suffice for the average person and the added bonus is they are cheaper to buy than a comparable iPhone. However, if you need and make use of the system integration the Apple offers to its users, then the Apple world IS the place to be. Android, Windows, ChromeBook, Google just do not get the job done when it comes to how Apple can take data and instantly make that data available on any other Apple device you may own. The amount of time it saves me and other Apple users each day is valuable not to mention there is no need to re-enter data on multiple devices as you must when you own Android, Windows, ChromeBook, Google devices.

Apps I use on my Mac and my iPhone that automatically stay in sync:

Safari web browser (all bookmarks on one appear on the other device)
Mail (email)
Contacts (electronic "little black book")
Calendar (full featured, networked)
Notes (Same notes are on both devices at all times)
Reminders (both one-off and scheduled/repetitive)
Maps (GPS enabled turn-by-turn navigation) (I also use two other map apps)
Messages (Apple text app)
Facetime (I also use Zoom and MS Teams)
GarageBand (audio recording and music creation/mixing)
iMovie (simple video editor, forward compatible with Final Cut Pro)
Photos (Photo organizer and editor)
Pages (word processing/page layout)
Keynote (presentations)
Numbers (spreadsheet)
News (news reader)
Music (music player)
Podcasts (podcast player)
Books (book, magazine, and PDF reading library)

iCloud ties it all together. Both computer and phone are fully encrypted and the computer is double fire-walled.

I have an Android phone (Google Pixel so not part of this discussion). I seldom use the camera so don’t care about that. I have a Windows computer and an iPad. I use Google calendar and Google mail and it all works harmoniously with the 3 devices so no worries for me about compatibility issues. The issue is you can’t use Apple calendar, etc. but since Google calendar works, I don’t care. My spouse and I share a Google calendar so all work together.

I have to consider that I don't use a Mac and with the way Apple is going for their new hardware I don't think I would ever use a Mac.

Ahhh. A POWER USER.

I only use mine for a phone; grocery list; messenger; and a couple of other occasional things.

Returning to your original post about which is better an iPhone 14 or a Samsung Galaxy S23, suggest you go to dxomark.com/smartphones and review the latest listing of the best smartphones currently available. You may be surprised to find the Huawei P60 Pro tops the list as the best phone! Unfortunately, in less than three months' time, there will be a new crop of smartphones and the scramble for the "best" phone will begin again. What will you do then?

Longshadow you have probably described 80-90% of the population that has a cell phone, which "kinda" proves it really doesn't matter if it is Android, iOS or BlackBerry or whatever.

Funny how when the question asks "A" or "B",
someone always suggests "C"...........
ALWAYS.

I guess I have to get a smart phone now. I think I miss the GPS feature the most. It works much better than the stand alone GPS.
The company that I worked for issued Iphone to me so I have been using Iphone 4, 5, 6, 7 , 11 and the latest was 12. Now that I retired I don't have the phone any more. If I get the Iphone 14 it would be familiar because I have used the Iphones in the past. However, as I have been using the Iphone I hate Apple policy of restricting files transfer between a computer and the phone via cable. They want everything going thru the cloud and I hate that. So I am thinking of getting the Galaxy S23 but I have used the Android phone very little. I had an old Android tablet years ago but I am not familiar with the Android OS.
What would you suggest? I think I am leaning toward the Samsung but I am afraid it would be difficult to use. Although I have used the Iphone for years I still think it's difficult to use so never had an Android phone it may be too difficult for me?

I moved off of an iPhone to a Galaxy S22 and couldn't be happier. Android is SO much easier to get along with!

If you are going to make a comparison, why limit yourself to only two. "Variety is the spice of life", so add some spice to your life.

What if the person evaluated everything and has narrowed it down to two?
Or is that not a possibility,
or maybe the person suggesting "C" doesn't care for "A" or "B"...

Some people drive Chevy, some Ford and some Dodge. They all do the same job and each driver has his/her reasons for why their choice of brand is the best. The problem with the term "best" is that it means different things to each person and therein lies the reason why we have these chase-your-tail-type discussions about which camera, which phone, which this, or which that is "best". Conclusion: buy what makes you happy!

Yes I did narrow it down to two and not consider any other alternative.
