Just wondering if anyone else shares my attaching problem. It's very difficult for this old 107 lb. weakling to attach my DX lenses to the adapter...so I just leave it on my 18-140mm and it works just as well on my Z50 as it did on my D7100!

I have all of the lenses you asked about and use the adapter and can’t tell the difference.

You've been on the UHH since 2019. You should know that you can only control what you post, not what you might receive as a result of your post. Even if you are a control freak!! In my experience the FTZ is...oh, wait a minute, I don't have a "Z". But if I did...oh, wait a minute...I don't!

Yes, but you MIGHT buy a Z camera one day. One never knows. Best to be prepared with a fixed answer just in case.

Of course you are correct, Chief. When asking a question here even if you name the specific answers you are looking for there will always be someone who, probably with good intentions, will throw in answers nobody needs or wants just in case.

This post is very specific; I want to hear from you if you have hands on experience with the Nikon FTZ adapter and any of the following Nikkor AF lens ONLY...18-200 DX VR, 24-70 f/2.8 non VR iteration, and 70-200 f/2.8 current iteration....I want to know how the auto focus has performed...I have read comments that not all Nikkor AF lenses function when coupled with the FTZ. Hands on experience only, please.

AF lenses will not AF.

Note, F lenses will mount on F bodies and Z bodies with FTZ (II).
Those same lenses have a lot of restrictions on various F and Z bodies where they mount but do not fully function or function at all depending on the F body or Z body being used.
See link for the long list of what works with what.

I don't own any of the OP equipment nor the FTZ or Z camera body but I know all of the OP's lenses will work fine with the FTZ and a Z body. Focusing performance should be the same as on an F body, optical performance is the same too.

Fine, just pointing out that you need an extensive chart to know.
Especially when it comes to AF.

The 70-200 f/2.8 works well with my Z8 and both FTZ 1st gen & FTZ 2nd generation.

The entire difference is just the shape of the housing. Both adapters are otherwise completely identical.

I realize I’m not addressing your specific lenses, but maybe of value to you. I’ve been using FTZ II on Z6 with 200-500mm for past couple years. Excellent AF. Same true for 105mm Macro and 50mm f1.4.

The lenses that don’t work with the FTZ are those old screw drive lenses that don’t have built in focus motors. All of the lenses you mentioned work just as well as they do on an F mount body.

I have two FTZ-II. One primary and one backup. Both work great with the 70-200mm second gen and all my F lenses from 14-24mm to 800mm. Just bought my second Z9, so will probably be using both for a while. I have a ton of $ in F lenses and cannot see a reason to switch them out.

I have the 70-200/2.8 w/FTZ ii on a Z6ii body - AF works great. The key point is to make sure both the camera and lens have the latest firmware updates (especially the camera), so the lens AF protocols are in sync. Also note, of course, lenses without built in motors (non-AF-S or AF-P) will only work in manual focus. With the same lens, AF performance may vary due to the AF capabilities of the camera it is attached to - a Z9/Z8 may perform better than a Z6ii or Z7ii for example.

I was specific about my original post because I do not have a Nikon Z body...yet. I did spend about an hour at a local photography outlet with a buddy, we both checked out the new Nikon Z8, a Father's Day treat for both of us.

You mention the FTZ.

Curious, Are you about to purchase a used one?

The FTZII is the current model.

When I got my Z9 and FTZII, I tested it with all of my lenses, one being the 70-200, and compared to my D850. For my subject shooting I found no difference that concerned me.
