The US has had a bunch of forest fires (ie. California). You are not alone.
I'll admit, forest fires in Canada are very rare. Maybe it's because of the 85% item being SO much lower.
As a Canadian, I can tell you with certainty that forest fires in Canada are NOT rare. Right now, here in British Columbia, we are experiencing the worst forest fire on record. Any area in Canada that has forests is subject to wildfires each year. Fire season in Canada starts on May 1st each year and as we are experiencing abnormally high temperatures and low rainfall in the forest regions, both the quantity and severity of forest fires currently burning exceed what is usually experienced for all of the annual fire season which ends on October 31st each year. The Canadian weather service forecasts a hot dry summer for almost all of the forested regions in Canada this year.
