Yes! Another annoyance. I seem to recall advice about removing the chip from the original cartridge and putting it on the generic.

I don't know what model he discussed, but according to Louis Rossman, Nikon is not allowing aftermarket batteries in some cameras. This is nothing new, but we are definitely being screwed over by industry. Will cameras become inoperable after a certain amount of time or after taking so many pictures? There's always the danger of an old camera injuring someone, right?

Nothing is built to last anymore.

So far, Lenmar and Watson have worked well.

I am curious as to how Nikon can stop aftermarket batteries from being used in their cameras. If a battery manufacturer makes a battery for a specific Nikon camera and it fits and works, what is Nikon going to do, send out an electric signal making the camera reject that battery? I don't think so. Nikon may not like aftermarket batteries being used in their cameras but I am not sure they can do much to stop the practice.

Dennis

If a chip is put in the camera to recognize the battery they can certainly program it to shut down if a generic battery is installed. Of course some company will find a word-around.

You have $10,000 camera and lens, and you worry about a few dollars for an OEM Battery. I had an issue with a Wasabi battery swelling in my camera and was difficult to remove. I was using it for a solar eclipse, and I was doing a practice run which required a battery change and I couldnt see the battery because it was mounted on a clock driven aligned telescope.

I have the original and a aftermarket battery for my Z9. I bought the extra the day I bought the camera. Plenty of them for this model

Nikon was warning about after market batteries for a long time. I bought a Nikon D4s from B&H when they were first introduced. B&H included a Watson battery. I use that battery today, interchanegably, in my D4s and the grip of a D850. That's a lot of years getting a lot of use. I believe with aftermarket batteries there are good brands and not so good brands.

So in order to limit problems from not so good brands, the manufacturer blankets and says only use OEM...
It's a CYA thing.

This process has already started in printers. I recently installed ink cartridges in my HP printer and got a warning that they are non HP
The next step could easily be for the them to shut the printer electronics down unless you use HP stuff
