Put the PDF manual on your phone.
Olympus has program for android that allows one to search the manual amongst other things. Does Cannon have this?

The manual is searchable, I know that. I downloaded it to my computer.

I was in SLC over the weekend visiting family. Years ago I did business with Pictureline, a camera store up there. They were so nice, and I've always wanted to visit them. We went. It's a beautiful store, with lots of floor help and just about everything one would ever want IN STOCK! i asked about the R3 because I wanted to just hold it and look at it. I bought it! I had to go back because I found out it requires a different card than what I had. I'm still figuring it out. One downside: I was excited to see there was a book in the box. However, it's nothing but Canon disclaimers about how they aren't responsible if one does stuff wrong. So I have to download the instruction book, which I hate because they aren't convenient to put in a camera bag. But so far, I love it! The eye-controlled focus works! And the eye-finder works. I pointed it at a bird across the street, and the focus point went directly to its eye! Maybe I won't get any more black blobs!
Oh, and BTW, it was on sale, and I got some other stuff discounted as well. These guys are great!

I'm intrigued by the eye controlled focus. How great is it? Can you post some photos for us curious cats? Focusing has always been a nuisance to me.

The reason I wanted that camera was the eye-controlled focus. I had Elan cameras for years and the EOS-3. All of them had eye-controlled focus. So far, this one works pretty well. The issue I'm having is one detailed in one of the videos I watched on the camera. I don't realize how much I move my eyes! This one follows so fast, that the circle is dancing all over the place, and I have to tell my eye to settle down! I'll get better.
It works like magic. You look at something, and the focus goes there. If it doesn't find anything to focus on, there, it gets close. I did sort of fight with it while shooting a tiny little flower on a tree. I was pleased at the eye-finding focus also when I shot a bird that was across the street! Once I've played with it more, I'll have a better idea of just how good it is. You do have to calibrate it to your eye. They say that it doesn't work in low light, but mine did. I really struggled with focusing when I went digital, and the new cameras didn't have it. I've sort of figured out how to work around it, but I'm REALLY glad to have it back!

It is sort of too good to be true! But I love it! And it works! Back in the day of film cameras, the eye-controlled versions were $100 more. This time around, one can turn it on and off. Back then, some said it wasn't accurate. I found that it was. I was shooting race horses, and if I switched from looking at one horse to another, it switched immediately. In the R3, it's even faster than I remember. There are several calibration settings, so I'm going to have one with my eyeglasses and one without. I calibrated it indoors with incandescent lighting. I think I'll do it again outdoors in sunlight, as that's mostly what I do.

Sometimes, we have to yield to the moment and go with it. Picard learned the lesson, “resistance is futile.” Embrace it! And…. enjoy the R3. It’s a gem!

You know, in general I hate the use of abbreviations. I have lived in Arizona for 36 years and didn't have a clue what "SLC" is. I had to look it up to find that it was probably Salt Lake City. I know LA and NYC. But SLC? Give me a break. Please be more kind next time and spell it out - at least once. Glad you had such great service!!
Congratulations on your new camera! It is so exciting to learn and use new devices and we will all get to enjoy your handiwork. It’s also nice to read of such a positive experience shopping. Too bad Utah is to far from me to shop.

Really? I think you’re alone in the room.

Maybe. It is what it is. I now know.

Thank you Dave. This is one of my pet peeves also. I don't know if people are trying to save time by using acronyms or if they are trying to look smart.
Enjoy & I'm with you on the printed user manual coming with the camera. Maybe an ipad mini might help. Have fun.
