In case you didn't know, all that delicious deli meat we've been enjoying for years is manufactured. How do you think they get that large lump of ham? They manufacture it.

Many are, but not all.
Bolognas, olive loaf, and boiled ham are simply solidified mixtures.

Chicken and turkey, too. On "How It's Made," they showed how those deli lumps of chicken are made. I doubt any of those workers eat it.

Scientifically produced artificial meat is on the way to a supermarket near you. They're growing "meat" now.

Those are not as cheap as SPAM and don't taste as good as SPAM. SPAM is real meat.

Yeah, $12.00/lb is definitely not cheap. I might buy it on sale for $9.99/lb.

Well, they all contain real meat (among other things) to varying degrees.

Once a decade I try spam and come to the same conclusion. I forgot how bad it is. Salty, fatty meat product that has a smell like dog food. I'll probably forget this and try it again years down the road. The benefits of aging and a bad memory. 😋😋

It's been many years - and I WON'T try Spam again - it's awful, just as luncheon meat, so-called ham in cans, wieners and such - all just scraps of who knows what, which could not be sold otherwise, scraped up off the floor - nothing goes to waste! Ridiculous, but it's very popular in this country.

I like SPAM as well as the luncheon meat you talked about but no way I would want things like beyond meat. I hate imtitation meat. No meat is fine for me but no imitation meat for me.

As a youngster, we joked about SPAM and hot dog weiners were made of what fell on the floor at the meat processing plant

Scrapple....

I jokingly told a friend that it's everything left over from the pig except the oink...
Now I can't get him to try it!

Scrapple & eggs, SO good!

I have seen some programs, on the Smithsonian channel, on food harvesting/processing/packaging/selling. One of them was pigs/hogs from farm to table. I would never have imagined the extent of salvaging/using/selling parts that I assumed would be trashed. I didn’t hear them say what they did with the oink but I am certain they made some use of it.

These are filmed in England but I imagine it would be the case here in the USA.

Hormel says Spam is just pork shoulder and ham - no scraps or organ meat. But it is certainly high in fat and sodium. When I was in elementary school they served it in the cafeteria, and I hated it. The odd thing is that it is very popular in Hawaii.

No matter how you slice it, it's still spam
