My feeling is of Halloween, the leaves on the trees are gone but not yet winter and snow, so the birds could remain. My attention was also drawn to the small bird in the upper right. I like him. The nesting bird doesn’t have as much presence. I like the light from the moon. It’s not a comforting photo…too cold, although space wasn’t top of mind here. I agree though with the sense of awe and personal insignificance. That’s well described.

Are you lost when someone says “squirrel”!!??
Thanks so much for your time and interest, Ellen. It took me a few seconds to get your "squirrel" reference. Love it!!

Since the nest didn't have wheels or a hitch, the birds left it when they flew south. They sublet to squirrels for extra
income.

Hee hee

Redtail hawks are in my area year-round. I saw Dad in the tree briefly that day also. However, I have an older photo of a platform osprey nest that had been sublet to a great blue heron in another February, years ago

I like it. The composition is calming. I like the three points of interest - the moon, the Sharpie, the Buteo on the nest. Pretty great.

Looks like it might be one of those Washington hybrid poplars that WSU has been propagating for the last 30 years. They are bragging that there are 100,000 acres planted with them now. Makes me nervous. Then I look at your image and that calms me down.

I'm very pleased to hear from you, Mike! You always have interesting and informative tales to share.

Here's a better view of that stand of trees. This is in the middle of a housing development that's been there for at least 20 years. Hope it helps you stay calm. You made me smile!
