A two-photo composite.
If you're inclined to ponder, is there a certain mood you feel this conveys? Is the hawk on the nest too tiny to make any sense?
Your time is much appreciated!

Scale, moon, nest, hawk all looks fine. You had me with the way naked winter trees expose critter dwellings!
I don't see a problem, Linda. It looks fine to me.
I like it Linda. I always look at the picture(s) before reading any description. My first impression was that looks like a cold, lonely winter day. It's something I would attempt if I was a little down but not in a real dark mood.
I don't think the hawk matters one way or another but I immediately noticed the little bird in the upper right. Both of them together add life to another wise bleak winter scene.
Then I read the description and took a closer look to try to determine what the two shots were. It appears to me that the moon is in front of the clouds so I'm going to guess the moon is the second layer?
Many thanks, everyone! Your time is much appreciated.
Jack, the moon and clouds photo was merged with the white-sky tree at 82% multiply blend mode.
I photographed the moon in daytime a few months ago just as it appeared from behind those clouds. The pic I used for this composite is below (color was manipulated, overall definition sharpened
). It does look a bit "pasted" in this composite, so maybe I'll blur the edges somewhat. Thank you for your detailed feedback!
An eye-catching result, Linda! I agree with Jack about the appeal of the smaller bird in the upper right.
Linda, it looks good to me.
I like this mood shot. Something I would probably would lean to if I was going to create it. Very believable.
Mike, FS and Frank - thanks so much for your input!
The composite is nicely done. I really like the clouds in the original moon shot. But in the final image, the sky looks very much like a winter day sky. About the birds: I immediately noticed the two guys in the tree. Frankly, I probably wouldn't have noticed the one in the nest if you hadn't mentioned it. I would have though it was just a bump in the nesting material.
John and Kathy, thanks so much for your visits!
I was finally curious enough to check the other "birds." The forms on the left are two leaves. The one on the right is indeed a bird; looks like a small long-tailed hawk such as Cooper's or the similar one whose name I always forget. This very tall stand of trees is smack in the middle of a residential neighborhood. How I would love to have those raptors as my neighbors
I think I got a bit confused by the title Linda, I should follow Curmudgeon’s method and ignore titles before looking at the image. I like the feel of the image but the birds and nest (and leaves) are a distraction I’d clone out. I don’t feel they add anything and, as I see it as a night shot, birds look a bit out of place. I’d say it’s a mood image - winter eve perhaps? Now, what were you feeling when you titled it Space?
Seems I'm confused about the tree appearing to be from a winter scene when birds don't nest.
