Will be going to this region...suggestions re lenses and since it is primarily for landscape photos...bright desert..salt flats...milkyway..

D7000 tripod. ..suggestions based on my camera

I never have visited that desert but if you are going to take one lens only my choice would be the Nikon 18-200 f3.5-5.6 AF-S, VR. This lens will not be useful for the milky way shots, you will need a fast wide angle for that keeping the 1.5 factor of your camera in mind.
I am sure others could advise you as per their experience on which one to take.

It gets really cold at night. Also, beware of altitude sickness. Amazing place, but the view can get a bit monotonous. White as far as you can see. Light reflection can be an issue. We enjoyed it. Check out the Salt Hotel

You need to cover both the wide end and the long end. Having a lens that goes as wide as 12mm on your APS-C camera (18mm full-frame equivalent) is important to capture these amazing, expansive landscapes. You also need a long lens to capture wildlife, like flamingos and camelids.

Another thing to consider is filters. The Atacama desert reaches very high altitudes. The light is very bright, and the skies have a really dark blue color. I definitely would recommend a good UV filter, and you might want to check into other filters.

A piece of medical advice: research the altitudes that you will reach on your trip. You may want to protect yourself against altitude sickness as this might ruin your trip. Once you have a serious case, there is nothing you can do other than seeking lower altitudes. You can manage your rise--rise in altitude gradually. If you have no control over this you can prevent it with medication. Talk to your medical provider about diamox, which is a prescription drug. I have a problem with altitude sickness and successfully managed my Andean trips by taking diamox.

will be leaving from San Pedro de Atacama after acclimating for three days then overland for 6 days ...from salt flat flying to la Paz and do some day trips...unfortunatly the telescopes are off limits as far as I know...

worldcycle Loc: Stateline, Nevada

Spent a week there before Covid. Lots of landscapes, even better, lots of wildlife, especially birds. Most very close especially around favorable water sources. Lots of water, runoff from the mountains. Make sure you make it to the geyser field for sunrise. I carry 3 lens, 16-35, 24-105, and a 70-300. A nice spread for focal length to capture most subjects.
