As a birder, I am waiting for the camera that has a bird identification app such, such as Merlin, built-in. In general, the ability to load and use apps would be a big step forward.

I have a friend that shoots long lens M4/3 bird photos. With the bird displayed on the back of their camera, they point their phone at the camera screen with their birder app. It worked!

My Touch is still working perfectly well. The sales rep tried to get me to buy the iPhone instead. Why interrupt good music with somebody wanting to B/S on the telephone?

Anyone know a reason why camera manufacturers can't/don't make a camera with the features of a cell phone, without the phone. Would the still need cellular connectivity to do what they do?

Because the market for it would be too small. People would just buy the cellphone.

What features of a cell phone other than the phone would you like to see?

I've thought for 11 years that camera manufacturers should conspire with Apple or Samsung to mount a phone on the back of a mirrorless camera for image processing and transmission. It'll never happen, but it would make sense for those who need bigger sensors and special lenses and such.

Actually, the ship photographers on Royal Caribbean now use a strange rig appended to their Nikons that appears to be some industrial Cellphone/Communications device they use to track the photos they take back to specific cabins. They use it for Billing, digital photo packages etc.

I have already posted an idea on UHH for someone to market a CAMERA oriented Smartphone Device with a LARGE sensor and interchangeable lens system.
The inevitable "Body Cap" could have a basic lens for daily use while allowing for premium & aftermarket telephoto/zoom lens use as needed. The Smartphone would provide the GPS tagging functionality for the Metadata.

Hmmm… like I use mine? Mini Computer, Sat/Star tracking, music, health, SOS Crash detection, word processor, dictionary, GPS, Maps, FaceTime, Zoom, Compass, tape measure, level, Scanner, calculator, language translator, Web Browser, Google news, Amazon orders, take Notes, weather, keep Contacts, calendar updates, Photo Editing, photo storage 100 gb, Watch tv/movies, Education, presently using 741 Applications on it… occasionally use it for photos and phone calls.
Don’t think you can squeeze much of that on a camera. Wait… the iPhone IS a camera, sort of! Huh…

I think you have me beat on apps. But I am about to hit 22,000 photos on my iPhone. 🤫 don’t tell the camera purists. It would be awful hard to find a photo among 22,000 using a typical camera menu. But I can normally find the photo I am looking for in seconds on the iPhone.

How about a GoPro? It takes great pictures and videos. I just carry around in my pants pocket.

I purchased a Google 6 Pro for its camera capability. While the image quality is excellent, I find the user interface difficult to get used to. I have 65 years of experience using cameras of various formats, plus a recently acquired essential tremor, so I'm passing the Google phone to my wife, and have acquired a Sony RX-10iv to replace my extensive Sony collection.

Not sure how well a photograph the Ipod Touch will take but you are still able to purchase them.

That's impressive. Now if you could take out everything but the camera, that would satisfy my needs.

The IPhone series is achieving the status of a “camera that happens to have a phone” instead of “a phone that happens to have a camera.” When Apple quietly introduced AppleRaw with the IPhone 12, they made their intention clear that they are going after the serious photographer who uses Photoshop and other high control editing software. Now the IPhone 14 Pro Max has a 48 megapixel sensor and shoots 4k video at several speeds and resolutions, and has built-in normal, wide angle, and telephoto lenses. And if you don’t like editing on the small screen on the phone, a high end IPad does wonders. And both on the Iphone and in third party markets, there are countless AI (artificial intelligence) apps to achieve very sophisticated results. Yes, I know, I know, the size of the sensor is small compared to full frame. But that is not the point. The point is that the IPhone is casting a wider and wider net that when the serious photographer fully understand its capabilities, it can be a very powerful replacement to meet the needs of many serious photographers in shooting their interests. I have seen IPhone pictures on big screens and large prints that surpass the stunning category. And I have seen IPhone videos projected on theater size screens that are equally stunning. I have heard someone shot a feature film with I phones, but have no direct knowledge. I have a number of friends who have converted their Nikons and Canons into paper weights because once they fully educated themselves and learned all that the IPhone can do, their needs were met. It was a question of conquering a new learning curve. I am not there yet, but very close to it. The IPhone 15 may push me over the over the edge. I won’t miss lugging those camera bodies and lenses. I am going to Yellowstone this Spring, and I hear many wildlife photogs now use IPhones with adapters connected to top tier spotting scopes.

Thanks for the reply and great link! If anyone wants to see a full range of I phone capabilities, this is it! A friend of mine is a wedding videographer. He fully acknowledges that an IPhone 14 Pro Max would meet his needs, but that he doesn’t dare show up at a wedding and pull out an IPhone! That would just not look professional!
