Shame to have a photo of a beautiful animal ruined by one post. Now coyotes are a totally different animal. After they fed on all the cats in our previous neighborhood, hunting in pairs, I have no use for them.
In the cosmic scheme of things, I wonder what specie on this orb is the greatest vermin, which one has done the most to foul the nest we call mother earth. Very often when we have issues with wild creatures, it is because we have moved into areas where they formerly raised their young and lived their lives. Before we get too sanctimonious, we should realize that housing developments, shopping centers, schools, and other construction including highways has done much more to destroy the lives of our wild neighbors across the globe than the actions of some "big talkers with their guns regardless of how noxiously they tell about their exploits. We can point to many wondrous accomplishments our kind has produced, but we are the ones writing the reviews. All of our wild fellow travellers of the land, air and sea might have a different point of view, including the Bobcat.

What kind of shape was your friend in after wrestling with that bobcat?

I've got everything from Great Danes to pit bulls in my neighborhood walking down my block. But the leash laws have stopped the dogs from rabbit hunting and the increase of rabbits has attracted bobcats and coyotes in the area.
Northern CA it was coyotes.
Some do gooder files a lawsuit, so now coyotes are protected.
Neighborhood chickens, turkeys, peacocks, cats and small dogs disappeared.
So did snakes, rabbits, foxes, squirrels and many birds.
But but nature! Bleeding hearts feed them.
Got little kids- walk with a sharp stick.

Coyotes are smart buggers. In our neighborhood they would hunt in pairs. It was easy to see the cats with their eyes reflecting the light. The cats would see one coyote, but not the other. At one time our street was full of cats, then it wasn't. We lived near a large park that encompassed a lake which was about 10 miles in circumference. When I called the Park Department to complain about the coyotes I never got a call back. Some years later, a stink was made when a coyote was seen further north in a more affluent neighborhood during the day. People were afraid for their children.
We have them in this area, too.
