But the elephant in the room is the tracking accuracy which many internet influences point out is the only Achilles heel to the camera. Through NPS I had one for 2 weeks and found this to be a major issue. Others will claim it tracks fine. But a bird against a complicated background, it sometimes will loose tracking and then get it back. In my line of business I cannot afford misses. That's why I will stick with my Sony a9 and a1, they, under the same conditions, do not loose tracking. Nikon has yet to address the elephant in the room.
Otherwise. It is a fine camera.

Jerry, it is hard to argue the Z9 is a great camera. It has great reviews and professionals are using it. The price scares me, I could have better use for those $5000.
I am at a stage in my life where a simple camera could easily cover my needs. I do not need 120 FPS nor I need the most sophisticated and fastest AF. As a matter of fact, I shoot more landscapes than anything else and for that any camera with a 16 megapixels sensor will cover my needs. I seldom enlarge to more than 12x18 inches but with those 16 megapixels I know I can go larger, something that I will rarely do.

Because I seldom use ISO settings beyond 1600 noise is not an issue in my photography. If I see noise and I want to suppress it I give the file a pass through Topaz Denoise and I am not using any of those sophisticated AI versions. Dust on the sensor is no issue either, Olympus has the best dust control machine of any camera made. I had never cleaned a sensor in my Olympus cameras. Having lenses available from Olympus and Panasonic is a godsend.

I have my opinion because not everybody needs such a sophisticated camera. There is a big difference between I want and I need.

I understand. A Z9 would be wasted on me - the D850, too.

Oh Jerry, it must be difficult to be the leading poster and not a photographer.

I'm neither a photographer nor a leader. I communicate on UHH, and I take lots of pictures every day. But I'm not a "Photographer."

It's okay. But a bit big. If they cut the camera in half, I'll buy the top half for half the price.

You just have to use the correct autofocus choice for what you are shooting. It tracks fine when in the correct mode.

It has so many different focusing choices that it takes a lot longer than two weeks to learn which mode works best in what situation. Now with firmware 3.0 there are even more choices as you can make your own custom focus boxes.

The camera does have more noise Than so.e but is the best choice on the market for sports and other action photography.

Has the lens spacer/adapter issue proven that you can use all your old lenses with full function?

Own 2, best camera that I have owned or used. When the D6 came out I was hoping that it would be the D5 and D850 combined, it wasn't. Z9 is the D850 and D6 combined except for high ISO so I kept my D6 for poor lighting conditions. The only downside for me it 20fps, when shooting football with the D6 I'd shoot about 500-1000 now with the Z9 the other night I shot a little over 2700. The D6 at 14fps vs Z9 20fps. I have to admit I do capture more great shots. If you wait for it you will never catch it.

Just remember the D500 was about 25% the cost of it's big brother the D5. Hopefully they will take much of the technology of the Z9 and make a more hobbyist friendly model in cost and size. The flagship of any line is not for everyone but their spawn might just fit the bill.

You can slow it down from 20, put it at 10, 12, 15 or 20 frames.
I found too, if I turn off the fake shutter sound, I shoot many more than if I have it on at low sound.

I kept my D6 too, but seldom use it.

Seriously in about 10 years it may be available for under $1,000. I would probably buy it then.

Thanks for the link - I have a question about noise. I do a lot of high school sports action. We all know many highs school filelds are not well lit for night photography. In my situations, I find I am always shooting at high ISO's. When I switched from DSLR's to mirrorless (Z6's), I was amazed at how little noise I saw at the higher ISO's, (notice I did not say "no noise"). It was more than acceptable for the work I do. Now I am having a GAS attack and am thinking about upgrading to the Z9. For those of you who already have and use this camera would this be a wise move given the parameters i have described? I always welcome any advice

Actually they addressed it with a firmware update last week.
