The link doesn't tell just what this long composite of disparate photos is about. The whys or the hows?----

I agree whole heartedly. Many people push the mirrorless diatribe but the D850 still provides quality at half the price. I am really split on buying a second D850 vs. adding a Z9 to the stable.

Of course you could add 2 more D850s for the price of a z9. I looked at the z9 but it is a large camera and I don’t like the attached battery grip. I hope a z8 is being planned with the excellent tracking feature of the z9 but with no added grip.

I see that Abe's Maine lists the Z9 at $300. less than B&H.

If you read posts about Abe's you will understand that is not a bargain!

Indeed I read the posts with no proof, but suggested they don't adhere to the "absolute new sticker price" and therefore provide a "street" price markdown. The implication is that thye buy new---out of country as sort of a "back door" and that maybe the manufacturer, upholding the "sticker price" might not adhere to a warranty claimed in the USA for something of theirs bought through a foreign country. But yet no UHH gave a concrete example when they undercut Adorama and B&H. I suggest you get in writing about any warranty with a discounted product from anybody, including Abe of Maine. But then if you want full sticker and pay an extra $300. You are free to do it. Provide proof of cancelled warranties, not inuendo?-------

I bought a second D850 from my local dealer last Wednesday while they were on sale for $2495. (I've had the first one a little over four years.) Had a nice and very interesting visit with the sales guy, which I'll recount another time. Turns out it was their last new one, so I was really glad to get it. Also picked up a CFExpress card and reader (my first...all other cameras are still using XQD cards) which is much faster than I'll ever be able to take advantage of. The price for that bundle was something of a shock.

The D850 is still a great camera. You would have to spend $5500 to get another that can do what it can do. It will be a challenge to try to find something it can't do.

I encourage you to learn the capabilities of your new camera. But my suggestion is that you do it a little at a time. Don't try to drink out of a fire hose. Most of those who tried to talk you out of buying it have no clue of its capabilities.

Mostly...have fun with it.

Challenge accepted. Can it shoot 29fps while tracking eye focus on a bird in flight? 😜🤪

Just a note: Although with this purchaser of an 850 has favorable responses and congratulations, a year ago when I promoted my Sigma SD-1 Merrill, I received nothing but derision. I pointed out the unique Foveon X3 sensor in Sigma's advanced $10,000 original SD1 which was attacked by the Bayer sensor folks of Nikon and Canon and their reviewers, and then was introduced a few years later as the Merrill edition which was identical to the original SD-1. (List down to $3300.) It is 46megapixels in a stacked, three layer color sensor. But it seems the UHH folks who generally write on this site felt a need to attack to preserve the supremacy of their Nikons and Canons without owning one themselves? Anyway---just an observation about make and model ownership. Such as MY Ford is better than your Chev---My International tractor is better than your John Deere---etc.----------ew P.S---the SD-1 Merrill body still demands $1000. used in good condition on eBay---a decade after it left the market.----ew

You are truly a piece of work. I have an idea. Why don’t you buy a camera from Abe’s and let us know how it works out.

Wow, my initial test shots are fantastic! Even in low light, the D850 nailed it. Having sent back the first camera due to shipping problems, once received by the dealer, a replacement was shipped with next day overnight delivery. It will take some time to get to know the ins and outs of it but initially, the D850 is very impressive. Hopefully Halloween decor will present some interesting photographic opportunities. Thank you to everyone for following my post and the great advise.

Tiphareth51: Glad to hear that you're enjoying your D850. I've had mine for 4+ years and it is very versatile. I use it for product shoots, portraits, landscape and video. It does all these things well. For any adjustments I can usually clean up in photoshop.

Why insist on an all in one. It is like a woodworker trying to do cabinet making on a Shopsmith rather than buying a shop full of specialty machines. It is harder and less successful. BUY A GOOD HD VIDEO CAMERA.-----ew
