Wow, my initial test shots are fantastic! Even in low light, the D850 nailed it. Having sent back the first camera due to shipping problems, once received by the dealer, a replacement was shipped with next day overnight delivery. It will take some time to get to know the ins and outs of it but initially, the D850 is very impressive. Hopefully Halloween decor will present some interesting photographic opportunities. Thank you to everyone for following my post and the great advise.

I bought a second D850 from my local dealer last Wednesday while they were on sale for $2495. (I've had the first one a little over four years.) Had a nice and very interesting visit with the sales guy, which I'll recount another time. Turns out it was their last new one, so I was really glad to get it. Also picked up a CFExpress card and reader (my first...all other cameras are still using XQD cards) which is much faster than I'll ever be able to take advantage of. The price for that bundle was something of a shock.

The D850 is still a great camera. You would have to spend $5500 to get another that can do what it can do. It will be a challenge to try to find something it can't do.

I encourage you to learn the capabilities of your new camera. But my suggestion is that you do it a little at a time. Don't try to drink out of a fire hose. Most of those who tried to talk you out of buying it have no clue of its capabilities.

Mostly...have fun with it.

You will love it. I've had mine for several years and I still haven't used all the features.

D850 = High density sensor array = warning...

► You need to shoot at a higher speed when trying to get optimal sharpness
► Aperture needs to be adjusted accordingly (fringing and lens aberration can become preeminent if not set correctly)

The camera use an 'invariant sensor'. You can use 800 ISO default base setting w/o issue IF and only IF you shoot raw.

Basically, do not rely on your experience with other cameras.

I bought my first one used about six months ago from Rockbrook Camera, my local source that I trust completely. I love this camera and use it regularly. It does just fine with all my lenses, including the Sigma 150-600 mm.

No one user would use all the features of a very advanced camera. But, OTOH, its good to have some familiarity with them, so when you accidentally launch one you can figger out why the camera has begun behaving strangely. UHH is full of threads derived from that sort of accident.

Congrats on the new camera! You won't regret the money spent. I don't, and I have two of them!

Thank you Larryepage. Congrats on your second D850. I did get the cf express card and the associated card reader as well. There is a lot to learn but it will be fun. Enjoy!

Thank you for the advise Rongnongno. There will be a learning curve for sure. So much fun to be had.

Thank you for responding jjanovy. I do have 2 Sigma lenses so it is good to know there should be no problem with them. Enjoy!

Quite honestly, I may be one of those users who accidently launches an unknown (to me) feature. With all of the internet resources and expert help from other UHH members here, I'm certain there is an answer somewhere. Thanks for responding.

Thank you Retired CPO. With the upcoming holiday season, getting familiar with it is a must. There are a lot of new features to try out but I am optimistic about the challenge!
