I have had occasion to be unable to focus due to low light with a camera having a much larger sensor, an APS-C. That was several years ago and prompted me to get a later technology model. But that was in a very dark theater. I haven't had that problem since, even with my 1/2.3" models.

So, you own this camera and that what you have found? I own this camera and I have NOT found that.

I have owned that camera, before I got the RX100 VII, as well as several other camera with the 1/2.3” sensor and they all struggled with low light, especially night time scenes. However I didn’t use the HDR feature, and that just might be a good work around for taking images in low light. I’ll take your reply as a hint for future low light situations.

If you are interested in buying one, I have one that I would sell. I bought it for times when I didn’t feel like lugging around my Fujifilm X-T2. I’ve used it a couple of times. It’s in like new condition. Purchased new at B&H.
I’ll sell it for $375 with an additional battery and battery charger (the camera does not come shipped with a charger). Plus shipping.
Send me a PM if interested. Rich

I LOVE MINE !! Quick story, - I was on vacation in New York City with my RX100, when I accidently submerged it in water. I ran into a NY camera store and bought a used HX80 to finish my trip. My photos with the HX80 were just as good! Then I got on UHH and Jerry told me how to fix my RX100..... but I kept using the HX80 because it was such a little bad ass.
Anyway - the HX99 is the newer version on the HX80 so it should be a total bad ass. You will love it.
