I am looking for a good program to sharpen and maybe enhance photographs in Lr C. A program that melds easily with LrC. There are several out there, Luminar, Topaz, Etc.

Thanks,
Roy

As I have been saying - ON1 2022.5. A trial - without any strings - is available.

Though I've only been using it a few weeks, I've been VERY impressed with the results I'm getting with DxO PureRAW 2. Granted, my choice to progress from the trial version to the paid-for version was largely a matter of its superior handling of my Fujifilm raw (RAF) images, but I've likewise used it to pre-process my Nikon raw images as well and been generally pleased.

PR2 functions flawlessly under LrC (which along with Ps is my primary processing software), but its best used first, as a de-mosaicing step while working on raw files rather than later on in a workflow.

I suppose I could give a full review of what PR2 does or doesn't do, and what its strengths (outstanding sharpening and 'enhancement' with my Fuji files, same with Nikon files after dialing back the amount of sharpening slightly) or weaknesses (of which I find only one: it takes a long, long time to do its thing), and if anyone wants me to, I will. For the moment, however, I'd suggest you download a trial version and see if it does what you're looking to have done.

And the very next topic I click on is someone asking for AI recommendations.

I agree with the ON1 choice.

I wouldn't give up on LR's sharpening before I was sure I was using all the discrete sliders, and understood the impact / enhancement of each.

Though I've only been using it a few weeks, I've b... (show quote)

Well, I just shot a local 4H rodeo and on Friday evening with low light was using ISO 12800 on my Fuji X-T4 (with 40-150MM lens set at 2.8, not that that matter here).

Attached are the raw file and the DxO PureRAW2 adjusted version - ignore composition (I am just now starting to cull) and note the noise reduction. Both images are directly exported from LR with zero adjustments made to either.

The downside of DxO, such as it is, is the dng files are about twice as large as the original raw files - 110MB compared to about 60. But for the improvement in noise at high ISO, I have not seen any other program that can do as good a job. Yes, there was some minor optical correction (after all, that's where DxO got its start, right?) but the noise reduction makes a lot of difference IMHO.

Thanks for all the input.
It seems that ON1 and PR2 are the two specifics mentioned.
Are Luminar and Topaz not in the mix?

Not for me - any more - (I used to use LR/PS, and have tried a dozen others, including Topaz.)

Topaz is definitely in the mix. I think if you download a free trial copy of Topaz AI Sharpen and AI Denoise and try them on some of your most problematic shots you’ll know the answer.

Topaz is amazing. That said, follow the links by CHG_CANON to make sure you're getting the most out of the LR sharpening abilities.

I agree with you on the Topaz Ai products especially the new Topaz Photo AI which incorporates their most popular AI products under one app.

Topaz AI Denoise and DxOPure Raw both do an excellent job
