I'm in agreement with imagemeister. Canon's 24-105 4L line is a weak link in the L series IMO. I had the vII years ago and replaced it pretty quick with the EF 24-70 2.8 II. If you read pro reviews, you'll see phrases like "best zoom ever made." The color, contrast, sharpness and AF performance are all superb for a zoom. It's been my workhorse for years. The EF 70-200 4L IS II is an outstanding zoom as well. It was one of the last EF lenses developed. The best lenses are still primes and I'm particularly fond of my 135 2L which I call my "magic lens." It has an uncanny ability to "capture souls" of people and animals. It also takes outstanding landscapes in instances where a longer lens is called for. It was recently discontinued after 26 years but used ones are available for 600-700 which is an incredible bargain IMO.

Lenses are a lot like children.
They all have their own personality and pluses and minuses.
You shouldn’t show favoritism.
You can have several but that my not be desirable.
BUT if you no longer like one you shouldn’t abandon or sell it.

Lenses and cameras should not be sold off or given away. They are unique family members.

I love to shoot wildlife. My most used, and favorite, in my Sony 70-400 g. But my best is the beast of a Minolta 600 f4. All the others of the many (my wife would say too many) lenses are used according to the purpose at hand. Some excell, while others have unique characteristics that I find challenging and enjoyable at the same time.

I have a ton of lenses - but the two I mostly take with me are Sigma’s 8-16, and Nikon’s 16-300 - for portraits I use Nikon’s 18-140 - my basic thought is you need to check out a few wider lenses

I agree. Both are excellent for travel and general use. My 18-300 was fantastic for whale-watching in Alaska.

After 15 years of drudgery using various generic 18-X00 zooms for technical work, I didn't appreciate what photographs could look like until my first superfast prime. Have to give it to the 58mm Voigtlander.

My favorite lens, and one that just blows me away every time, is my new Nikon 400/2.8 TC attached to a Z9. Just incredible. My next favorite lens is my Nikon 70-200/2.8 S lens, and then to my Nikon 50/1/2. My Nikon 24-120/4 S is also a great lens. IMHO, YMMV! Best of luck.

My Canon 24 -105mm f4L is the most used lens. It has gone with me all over the world and recorded many great photos for my travel and research journal.
