Kenworth trucks can be seen on roads all over Australia hauling one, two, three of four trailers in various configurations on public roads and even more trailers on some dedicated mine haul-roads. Initially imported from America as built-to-order fully assembled units, a Kenworth manufacturing plant was opened in Victoria, Australia in 1970 with the first Australian built Kenworth completed in March 1971.

In 2005 Kenworth opened a museum at the National Road Transport Hall Of Fame in Alice Springs and now houses over 30 Kenworth trucks including the first Australian built unit.

I took the following photos during a recent visit to the museum.

Great set of images!!!
How do they open the hoods on the trucks with the grill guards? I can't see any sign of a hinge point.

Nice shots. My farmer has a big (well, they are all big) green Kenworth that he hauls grain with.

Nice set of older and newer iron, I spent 46 years of my previous life owning, working on and driving semi's across the US of A. I was not aware that your country had its own Kwhooper plant.

Thanks for your comment Manglesphoto. The grill guards are known as bull bars because wondering cattle are a common hazard on outback roads - besides sheep, kangaroos, camels wild horses and emus. The bull bar hinge is hidden behind the channel section near the bottom of the bull bar. The bull bar in the attached photo is held in place by four eye bolts - releasing the eye bolts allows the bull bar to swing down, thus allowing the bonnet (hood to you) to tilt forward. Regards, Richard.

Thanks for your comment troutbum. Kenworth Australia celebrated its 50th year of manufacturing trucks in Australia in March 2021 which coincided with celebrating the 70,000th truck built at its site in Melbourne, Victoria.
