Nicely write up, however, consider the source.....nothing at all against B&H...they are in the business to make $$$...An article is written to peak ones interest & of course questions will arise and phone calls will lead back to B&H...Previously remarked earlier, is one needs to take into consideration of persons, height, type of lens, weight of lens, vibration, etc. One thing also needing to be considered is the type of feet needed, rubber pads, and/or spikes for the terrain the tripod will be on. Rather than use Google or well known photography retailers, I tend to go with totally independent reviews such as https://thecentercolumn.com/tripod-reviews/ & start my research there.

Recommending a tripod without considering the photographer's requirements is irresponsible. Factors that must be considered are: The photographer's height; the longest focal length lens that will be used (now or in the future); the highest megapixel sensor/camera that will be used; terrain (level ground, mid-stream, or hillside); maximum equipment weight; and possible wind or vibration (near a road) environment.

Plus waterproof use or not too.

Exactly. They are considered "helpful" while I am considered grumpy and uncivil. But at least I happen to know what Im talking about.

This drips of sarcasm.

Theres not nearly enough sarcasm around here anywho. More is more betterer. But, in this case, I really cant see any sarcasm in the opening post. Wish I could, but its just not there :-(

Interesting. Clicking the link just now, I get a B&H page of deals, none of which are tripods.

The post was an alert to a special price deal (from a reputable dealer) that basically cut the price of this quality-brand tripod in half for a 24-hour period.

So in my judgement it was a responsible, well-intentioned and usefully informative post.

Agreed, but reading the listing its a rather weird tripod except for traveling light. The price was reeeeally good if you wanted it.

as a general rule the tripod should be 2x the weight of the camera. you can get away with less, such as a travel tripod but you must be carful.

Just by what you can afford. You can get some pretty good tripod and ball head combos without breaking your wallet.

I took the center post out of my Slik and put in a $25 ball head, solid, light, and inexpensive; quick clip-lock posts, rugged, does all I need.
