I also have the 18-140. Depending on your skills, I doubt you'll see a difference. Two, inexpensive kit lenses which are a great value.

Seeing as I cannot tell the difference, I am curious as to exactly what skills I need to develop in order to tell the difference between two apparently identical photographs.

This is the second time this month that some has posted a reply (the other being on a different forum) which included a gratuitous remark putting down someone else who was just trying to be helpful. It would be nice if people would not have to make such comments and actually contribute to the question being asked.

My response and statement was not intended in a pejorative sense. However, your response was somewhat hyper-sensitive. That said, I will remove, if possible, my images and suggest you find info on "skills" i.e., settings/stabilization approach, lighting, composition, editing etc., from other sources. I've spent enough time.

I found it to be a really good lens. I shot it on a d5100 with excellent results to include enlargements. Here are some images from that combo. You decide.

Love these!
Id venture to says skill, timing, composition and technique are more important than equipment.

I disagree. Your response was quite rude and I don't think I was being over-sensitive. Not only did you describe these lenses as "inexpensive", even though when new, they cost more than someone on minimum wage makes in a week, you had to add "kit", which we all know is a perjorative term for any lens which is priced under four figures. The implication was that the OP and those of us who buy these lenses clearly lack the skills needed to know any better, so we will be happy in our ignorance. Meanwhile, people with superior skills buy much more expensive lenses and therefore produce photographs which they (but not us unskilled) can tell are vastly better.

I did not ask for suggestions on the skills you list. I asked for suggestions in how to learn to distinguish between two photographs taken under the same conditions by two essentially identical lenses. Apparently no such skill exists.

The 18-105 has been my go-to lens for years on a D7000 and D7200. I love it. Lenstest gives it high marks, too.

Not sure what planet you're from. I shoot weddings, events, portraiture etc. I use very expensive lenses as well as inexpensive (READ VALUE!!!!!!!!!!!!). Been shooting for 40 years. You need to go to your room, punch your pillow, take a nap. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You need to calm down, and stop attacking other people on this forum including the OP and me. Your original comment was a gratuitous insult and you seem to be losing your cool. What does your latest comment add to the discussion? All I am asking is that when people post here, their comments add something to the topic being discussed and not demean others. You could have said "you probably won't see much difference" but you just had to add the snarky "depending on your skills". The first comment would be true as these lenses are very similar. The second comment was just uncalled for. Implying that you have the skills to tell the difference but the person who asked the original question probably does not. And that I do not because I said I could not see any difference.

Does the fact that you have been shooting for 40 years mean anything? Then why mention it? Just to show off again? I have been shooting for 55 years. So what? That does not make me any more or less relevant here. I have always found that those most skilled in a topic are least likely to put others down and more likely to offer constructive advice.

How about a little civility here, less slamming other people for their presumed skill level, biases, or whatever? Or in the words of Thumper's mother, "If you ain't got nothin nice to say, then don't say nothin at all".

You will have to wait to see some pics from me. I am not one of those people who hijacks someone else's post to show off my pics.

You really do seem to have some issues with civility. You have gone from a small insult about skills to ranting and raving and personal attacks. I am not sure what your problems are, but this forum is not the place to put them on display. I think you owe the OP an apology for taking over this thread with your ranting.

I have reported your post to the forum moderator.

What right do you have to lecture me.......on civility. You attacked me and continued to push, over an innocent statement. I'm glad you reported me and my posts. You will not intimidate me with your caustic feedback.

Whatdat, you are right on the money. Such verbal sparring does nothing to educate anyone, it only reflects badly on UHH image for civility.

The 24 mm to 120 mm is a better lens

Yes, but it’s heavier, more expensive and isn't as wide on the short end.
On the wide end, 6 millimeters makes a bigger difference than the long end.
