Lightroom is both an organizing platform and processing software. If you have never used it there is a steep learning curve. Many issues with LR can be avoided by learning and understanding how to import and organize your images. Then learn keywords and collections. YouTube university will provide all the answer you need.
The subscription LR with Photoshop and Bridge for $10 and month is the deal of the century.
Also to really know it all get to know the LightRoom Queen.

My Lightroom (running on a 27” iMac) indiscriminately quits, usually when I attempt to send a photo to a plug-in, but not always.

Is this seemingly normal, and is there any fix that you folks know of?

My LR is version 6.0, and I am not interested in the subscription version. Adobe is not answering any questions about LR 6, so there is no answer there.

John, my 27" iMac also did this. In all honesty I had expected it to happen sooner. My machine is over 8 years old, and confined to 16-bite processing. I also was trying to run LR 6. Don't have a satisfactory solution, other than buying a new 24" iMac that I currently use primarily for photographic use and jettisoning LR 6 for the subscription version. MACs be great, but not immortal.

No help here John
Sharon tried light room yrs ago while I watched for about 30 mins, I won't say what she said but it contained a lot of four letter words, We where using Adobe CS4 at the time.
I have seen so many aggravating little problems with Lightroom posted here and I have no need of a lot of its features. After spending a few $k on CS programs started with Adobe 7 over the years that PSCC is a blessing

I don’t think you’ll get a fix for that. But how much RAM do you have? Do you close other apps while running LR?

It really burns me up when some people flippantly say just cough up the money and get the subscription. Are you kidding?? Obviously, you are rolling in money and have no idea what $10 a month does to someone who is on the edge. Maybe photography is the only pleasure they have and $10 is just too much. If a person says they can't afford it or doesn't want to do it, just leave them alone. Last year I used LR only TWO times and I'm expected to pay for 10 months I didn't use it and toss $100 away?? Don't you get it yet?? PLEASE leave people alone about a subscription if they say no to it. You just do not understand!!!!!

You can suspend your subscription and not lose any work. When ready, just pay and continue where you left off.

For those who can’t do that there are alternatives like Darktable. And if image adjustment is all you need, Affinity Photo and Photoshop Elements are non-subscription options.

The cancellation terms vary depending on the plan one is enrolled in. The Photography Plan, (the $10/mo Lightroom/Photoshop plan) has these terms:

“Cancellation Terms
You can cancel your subscription anytime via your Adobe Account page or by contacting Customer Support*. If you cancel within 14 days of your initial order, you’ll be fully refunded. Should you cancel after 14 days, you’ll be charged a lump sum amount of 50% of your remaining contract obligation and your service will continue until the end of that month’s billing period.”

That plan has no “pause” capability. Other plans do.
