Longshadow, just imagine how complicated it would be if he wanted to do Wales and Northern Ireland as well.

Just do Wales, I'm from Wales and it is a beautiful country. If anyone fancies a Wales trip, get in touch and I'll help you plan a route.

Going to Scotland for 17 days in October. As I see it, there are all sorts of photo ops from inside abandoned castles to city scenes to gorgeous landscapes and everything in between. I only want to take one lens on a Sony a6400. If you’ve been to Scotland, what lens would you recommend? Thank you in advance..
Gene

Do try and take a side trip to North Wales! Visit Port Merian and Snowden.

If you are limited to the A6400, I'd take a 24-105 lens; however, I'd recommend you leave the A6400 at home and take a Sony RX10 IV with its 24-600 lens.

You don't mention your lens inventory. If you have a nice wide-angle zoom, bring it. If you find that you need more, visit Weks Photo in either Edenborough or Glasgow. They rent lenses by the day.

My D7100 wears the 18-200VR2 lens all the time, for every purpose. I get by. If I need wider, I make a panorama. If it's dark inside, I find a way to steady the camera for longer exposures and/or increase the ISO. For flower closeups I stand back and use the 200mm setting.

When I went to Kenya I knew I'd need more reach so I had a second D7100 with the 200-500VR lens on it. Hung the smaller rig around my neck and put the bigger one on the seat next to me. Worked fine.

We are heading to Edinburgh to Speyside (then on Denmark, Baltic sea cruise and then finishing up in Norway gone for a month) in a few days. I agree with Longshadow, "I" am bringing my Nikon D3s and D850, with 3 different Lenses 18 - 300MM, 50MM & my 10-24MM. I will mostly use the 18-300. I will not carry all this equipment mostly my 850 and 18-300mm lens. but i will have backups if the need arises.

Gene, I don't use Sony products as much as Nikon. So, if there is an equivalent lens for Sony, I'd recommend the 28~300. If I was in your position, that's the lens I'd be taking.

Video centric... Sony E PZ 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS Lens.

Still centric... Sony E 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 OSS Lens.

The 18-135mm is half the weight of the 18-200mm...half the price...but the 18-200mm is the better lens overall image wise. Always trade offs.

One lens for Scotland?

I've been to Iceland, took only my 18-200.
Iceland, Scotland, Maine, location doesn't matter to me.
Wherever I go, the 18-200 will go, along with the 50mm.
But that's me. I like to travel light.

Smart guy! I *might* go with a 35mm and a 70-300. But then I ain't very big on WA. If I was, I'd go a little wider than 35, maybe 28. All my "normal" shots are at 35 or 50mm. I *think* that I have a 40mm living in a drawer somewhere. maybe I'd use that. I haven't used it in a while, not sure how good it is. Harry

I would take my 18-200 and my SB400 flash. Flash fits in your pocket
