Others recommended the Sony 18-105mm or the Sony 18-200mm (there are two versions)--they would work also. Done. What is so hard about this?

Its the Tina Turner "Proud Mary" thing ... "Becuz we nevvvvuh do ANYTHING nice, and easy."

>It depends greatly on what one may shoot.

I think all "what lens" questions are based on the idea that there is a lens that is good in every situation, no matter "what one may shoot". And imho, there is - a 50 or 55mm, normal lens. Harry PS Of course, it's possible that I'm wrong. If so, you probably need a hard sided lens case the size of a barndoor that will hold upwards of several hundred lens. Gotta cover all them possibilities! <g>

Harry PS Better put wheels and a motor on that barndoor, it might be a little heavy!

I agree--there is. It's an 18-200 or 18-300 zoom lens. They are good enough now that they don't compare too unfavorably with fixed-focus lenses, and for most folks who only take pictures to document their travels they do a fine job. If one is too weak to carry a DSLR with an 18-200 lens, then probably one should make do with a smart phone--they're not too shabby now, either.

Going to Scotland for 17 days in October. As I see it, there are all sorts of photo ops from inside abandoned castles to city scenes to gorgeous landscapes and everything in between. I only want to take one lens on a Sony a6400. If you’ve been to Scotland, what lens would you recommend? Thank you in advance..
Gene

I received over 100 responses and I want to thank everyone who took the time to respond. I’ve read each response several times and while some are a more on topic than others I truly appreciate the feedback. That being said, and taking your responses into consideration, I've decided to borrow a friend’s Sony Rx10iv for the trip. It makes much more sense in that I will have one lens to cover probably all my shooting needs. I’ll get the camera next week and start playing with it. Again…thanks for everyone’s feedback. It was much more than I had ever hoped for and very helpful! Gene

Great choice, and you have a great friend to loan you this. Have a great trip and share some of your favorites shots, ok. Cheers

For those who may not know about this super versatile "bridge" camera with its 25X optical zoom f2.4-4 Zeiss lens, equivalent from 24mm to 600mm, here it is.

Cheers, and just make sure your friend has done the couple of firmware updates there have been for this camera.
