I was an active GA pilot in the Detroit area for many years and not that long ago.It was very visible when approaching from any direction. I also always see and smell it when I drive back from Florida on I-75 and come over the bridge near the round NG tank that is always painted to look like the ball being used in the seasonal pro sports (baseball, basketball...). Driving past the Coleman Young incinerator at the corner of I-75 and I-94 always smelled like a giant cat litter box.

I am grateful I don't live inside that bubble. It does affect the light from the sky on most days as well as everyone's lungs.

Here is why my little experiment is really not conclusive when comparing the two "600 mm" shots. This is a different part of the same two 600 mm (equivalent) shots. The filenames are visible at the top and they identify which is which. In this one the sharpness of the green bushes is noticeably better on the one shot with the RX10m4. That is the reverse of the conclusion I reached when comparing the light fixture. The easy explanation for this is that the autofocus chose a different distance between the two shots.

This is a screenshot of the two images viewed in FastRawViewer (they are not raw) at 150%. My original post provided the actual files so anyone can do his or her own comparison to se what I am seeing.

I also included the same display but with edge and detail indicators turned on. This display is very useful but many will not at first appreciate it. If you look at the green edges in the two images you can see that the best focus distance is different. It's better at a further distance on the right (a6500) and closer on the left (RX10m4).

Each pair is probably a valid comparison between CIZ and not-CIZ but more care would be needed to compare between two very different camera-lens combinations. The best camera is the one you have with you. But the best settings are worth understanding.

Well done! I note that you used the LA EA4 adaptor. I have one that I use with my Minolta 500/8 and it works well compared to manual focus but not compared to a real AF lens. But getting a reflex lens to AF is like a singing dog.

This is extremely good with that Tamron - it is very OLD and not known for it's sharpness by today's standards - I did have one in the film era - it was well regarded at THAT time ......

It doesn't matter if the point of the picture is something else. Make the effort to do it right.

Thanks. Since the photo was taken I have replaced the Tamron with a Sigma 100-400 f5.6-6.3. I miss the constant f5.6, but the Sigma is a much superior lens to the old Tamron.

85% of what’s in the photo gallery on here are snapshots. Neither the subject is interesting enough or the presentation is something I would submit to a gallery.

Bbrowner may have already noted this but SuperflyTNT is talking about the photo gallery section. Just to be clear, my shots in this thread were NOT in the photo gallery section.

I have met many people over many years who insist on missing the point while they think that I'm missing the point. This appears to be in that category. Lincoln is alleged to have said:

True, but gallery or not I would at least straighten photos before I posted. Then again if I have the time to compose before shooting they won’t need straightening.
