That makes it seem even more difficult, especially when several others have to join in.

Accomplished jazz artists are among the best musicians in the world. They can play what is written AND improvise.
Charlie Parker once recorded a beautiful record with strings. No practice - He just showed up and cut the session.

Not jazz per se, but I am listening as we speak to a steel drum concert that was recorded in NYC. Unique sound!

Thank you, Joe!! Jazz Vibraphone is synonymous with Terry Gibbs, Lionel Hampton and of course Milt Jackson. Incredible jazz artists.

I would add one of my favorites, Gary Burton, who often performed as a duo with Chick Corea. I love the piano/vibes combo.

HI Mark: Thanks for putting up the wonderful Terry Pollard video. She recorded the music in Los Angeles in 1955. With all your interest and experience in modern jazz, I’m surprised you just discovered her. On a business trip to Detroit in the mid-1960s I had the opportunity to see her live at a small jazz club. She was a phenomenal be-bop pianist but sadly overlooked, probably because it was a male jazz musicians world in the 1950s.

Larry in NYC

Thanks for the background, Larry. I’m sorry I missed her. You are right about the male domination in jazz in the 50’s.

Caio,
Mark
