Port Townsend in Washington State as someone mentioned, has a great school for wood boat building. They can't accept all of the applications that they receive each year. It may be a slowed down art, but it's not a dead art!!

Inside a workshop at the Wooden Boat Institute, Deer Isle, Maine, these craftsmen painstakingly restore aged boats from another era. What will happen to their craft when this generation is no longer with us?

In answer to your question, most people won't notice. There will always be those, with dwindling numbers, who will cherish what the last generation left for them. Just enjoy the present.

Very nice picture you posted!

mffox,
If you a really interested in wooden boat building and like watching youtube videos of a 27yo from the UK rebuild a 1910 Gaff Cutter wooden boat, then check out Leo of the Sampson Boat Co. at;
https://sampsonboat.co.uk/
He is in Port Townsend Wa, doing the rebuild...
Enjoy

Have been following Leo from very near the beginning. He has had some very good mentors and he knows how to think a problem thru to a viable solution, and he also knows when he is in over his head and how and when to ask for help. He also has become a mentor to the folks who have been volunteers on the Talley Ho project. Those are the future of wooden boats from restorations, to maintaining and to new construction. I hope am around to see the splash. Cliff

Looking forward to the rest...

Yep, when trying to play catch-up from the beginning on a long running thread, it takes a while 20 minutes at a time. Thanks for the reply. Happy watching Cliff
