Inside a workshop at the Wooden Boat Institute, Deer Isle, Maine, these craftsmen painstakingly restore aged boats from another era. What will happen to their craft when this generation is no longer with us?

Nice shot.

(Good question, along with many other trades.)

Very nice shot. Without apprentices to learn the craft, like so many other skills, this will fade away. Sad!

Very nice photo!!! I agree with you and Longshadow that this and many other trades will disappear forever. Such a shame!!

I like this photo very much and your processing supports your concern for fading crafts and skills. I share that concern. Nice evocative work!

mffox,
If you a really interested in wooden boat building and like watching youtube videos of a 27yo from the UK rebuild a 1910 Gaff Cutter wooden boat, then check out Leo of the Sampson Boat Co. at;
https://sampsonboat.co.uk/
He is in Port Townsend Wa, doing the rebuild...
Enjoy

Great shot!
Their craft will disappear and will only live on as photographic documentation.

The craft will fade away but at least we’ll have the photos to remember.

A real tragedy that craftsmen never get their due. Hopefully, this excellent image will not be a museum piece of a lost art.

The same place stage coach repairmen went? Or TV and radio repairmen? Or radio announcers and DJs? Buggy whip makers? Or external TV antenna installers? Human sacrifice altar designers? The list is endless.

Very well taken image.

What will happen in the future will be the same as what happens now when we look at the pyramids and other ancient wonders and say, "How the heck did they make these?" Trades and techniques are lost to the ages when there is no one to carry the traditions on.

I watched a collegiate sports program last weekend and when they introduced the players it showed what they were majoring in. I was both amused as well as saddened that the vast majority of them were majoring in subjects that they would have very few opportunities for employment after years of college and expenses. One of them was...no joke...'Furniture Design' and several others were 'Sports Management'.
