I don't know that there is all that much to photograph from a balloon. Maybe I'm wrong.

If you like to do aerial photography it would be a unique experience. I have done aerial photography from aircraft and enjoy the Birdseye view of the photographs. I was also a photo interpreter in the marine corps reserve and where I became interested in aerial photography.

I have some photos of hot air balloons taken at the alburque (sp) New Mexico airport taken from the passenger lounge as I was transiting from Roswell NM back to CA.

I also have a couple taken with a cell phone as they were flying directly over my house in Modesto Ca. The cell phone was the only camera that was quickly available to get the shots and they were low enough that a zoom lens was not needed.

I was given a hot air balloon ride in Northern California for my 50th birthday. Here are a few shots from that ride.
BTW, that was 30 years ago so these are from slides taken with my Exakta VXIIA camera.

My wife and I went up in the first accention in Albuquerque last fall pm the opening day of the Fiesta. It was a great experience, I took several hundred photos before, during and after the flight. I would do it again!

Here is a link to one of my two postings https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-714464-1.html.

I imagine ballooning in Sedona would be spectacular!

We were there several years ago and watched the balloons float overhead. It was spectacular and in my humble opinion better from below than from the balloon above

Just curious, has anyone here gone aloft in a hot air balloon to take photographs? I found a site that offers early morning (dawn) rides near Sedona Az.

Yes. Twice. I haven't been to Sedona, but have twice flown in Albuquerque. Both times it was wonderful. The early morning light is from a low angle (shadows are more striking) and is a different color than found in ordinary daylight.

I took a hot air balloon ride northeast of Seattle. There are many photo opportunities with the land below and in our case the Cascade Mountains to the east. There was a second balloon that went up at the same time and it was fun to get shots of it from the air, both from below and above the other balloon.

I would think a ride in AZ would be equally wonderful. Even if the photography isn't great, the experience is pretty cool. The landing can be a touch rough, so be aware of that.

I did an early morning sunrise ride in Moab last spring. It is a great experience, but difficult to get in the perfect position for a shot, but a great perspective to get a different variety of shots. Pretty smooth and calm on our ride.

It sounds like a blast. I can’t do heights so I’m out.

I don't do heights well either but I did take a hot air ballon ride and it was terrific. In fact, I have purchased a pair of tickets so that I can take my lady friend on her first ballon ride. Since there is no reference from the ballon to the ground like you have when you look at the ground from the top of a tall building, you have no sense of height. It's the same as looking out of the window of an airplane.

It was one of those incredible adventures and the photo ops were also incredible. They even went over the Willamette River, here in Oregon, and set us down ever so lightly into the water. The only fault I had with it was that it didn't last long enough. I wanted to stay up there all day!

I took my wife on a balloon ride several years ago. We had a really good time but I don't feel like there was lot to take pictures of. Just go and enjoy.

When in Turkey two years ago we took a Hot Air Balloon sunrise flight over the Fairy Chimneys in Cappadocia. It was very enjoyable and I did get some nice pictures.
