Jeez! I said the same thing two posts ahead of him! 😜🤪
You did, however. Who doesn't love a good however? He did mention the Nikon DX 55-200, a highly unappreciated lens in the DX format. And, who doesn't love a good And? He later put the icing on recommending the 35 1.8 and the 50 1.8 lens. All 4 lens fit easily in a field jacket pocket, And light.
The recommended 16-80 is heavy due to the quantity of glass and lower f stop compared to the 16-85. It is also expensive. Dunno why DXO Mark hasn't analyzed this lens. It is grand for wider angle landscapes and ok for other uses

Ah, but I pointed out the actual small weight differences between the 18-300 and the lenses most were suggesting. 😜🤪

The 16-80 came as the kit lens on my D500. It's a really nice lens albeit a bit short on the long end. It's nice indoors in natural light, especially if you're not afraid to turn up the ISO a bit.
The DX 18-140 is often cited as a good walk around GP lens although I don't have it. My GP lens has been the 28-300 FX which wouldn't suit your needs. The Angry Photog likes the 17-55 DX but I would get a good used one.
JohnR - I use a Nikon 18-200. There is also an 18-300 - but I found it to be a little too big for my own taste. The 18-200 has excellent optics, especially for a general walk around lens. It's a nice size and doesn't weigh too much. I've had my copy since 2006 and it still works great. Worth taking a look at in my opinion.
Hi John. I love my 18-200 zoom. Lighter, and probably a bit sharper, than your 18-300. I've taken it to Costa Rica, China, and Africa, and I have been very happy with the results - at 13x19 and even at 17-22. George
Check out Ken Rockwell's site "www.kenrockwell.com" He is a well known independent researcher/analyst for lack of better words of all Nikon bodies & lenses . He offers pictures taken with many lenses & which lenses he recommends & others he doesnt.as well as why.
I also use my 18-300 on my D7500. It not the sharpest lens in the bag, especially at extremes, but it does allow me to almost never miss the shot. Albeit not quite as sharp as I would like it.
