For BBF, I use the AF-ON button. I also use the C1-C3 custom programs a lot with tailored settings for each, such as C1 set for BBF spot focus for landscapes or animals, C3 set for shutter button focus and animal eye recognition for BIF and moving animals.

I find the Canon manual and David Busch's book both to be lacking in the details that I've needed help with. I've found more helpful information in UHH posts and in YouTube than the manuals.

The R5 is a great camera!

That is a great idea. I will for sure use those custom buttons. Thanks

I haven't noticed any issues at all with the Q menu. Here are the Q menus from my 5Ds and R5. (sorry for the quality - just a couple quick snaps from my phone)

OH wow! that makes me so happy! Do you just hit the "Q" button on the R5 to get to that screen?

Okay, this is interesting: on the R5 in the menu AF (1) the eye tracking. There is a tab that says "Subject to detect." You can either pick animal or people. Is there really a difference? Do you have to dig in the menu every time to change this?

Yep, one touch away. If you like the 5D interface, personally I think you'll love the R5. Its familiar but more refined.

Yes, big difference IMHO. I set it to people and birds in flight were a bit disappointing. Changed to animal and it got way better.

The "Q" button took me a while to get used to, but it is nice. It gives you a list of common functions and allows a quick change with the "touch screen". With a couple taps of your finger, you can select and change a mode, like drive mode or focus mode. Allows you to quickly do things like turn on the 2-sec time for a few shots then turn it off.

I'm used to the "Q" button on my Canon 5d Mak IV. I was just excited that it is on the R5 also. I read somewhere, in the thousand things I have read, that someone was complaining that the "Q" button did not function the same way as the 5D Mark IV.

I have yet again another question. I see the RF 70-200 lens doesn't have an extender to work with it. I shoot sports with my 70-200 f2.8 II plus the 2x extender. This is a concern. Can I use my 70-200 plus the extender in the RF adaptor? Wow! That would be long and heavy though.

Yes, I have the R5 and an EF 70-200 f2.8 II. You can put the 1.4X or 2X extender on the EF lens then attach an EF to RF adapter to that combination so you can attach it to the R5. However, because of the weight of such a combination, I purchased the RF 100 - 500mm lens - much less weight and shorter. Just got back from Africa, and this combination worked great! You will love the R5 once you get used to the menu and controls which are somewhat different than the Canon DSLR's such as the 5d Mk IV.

Well that is good to know. I always use my Monopod with swivel feet with my 70-200 and extender. It helps with the weight.

I set up the R5 with multiple focusing options by dedicating different buttons. One happens to be with eye recognition turned on. There is plenty of help on the web. The R 5 has so many options it is hard to explain it all in a response to your question. Tony Northrop has a R5 tutorial on YouTube ( over 1 hour in length ) Check it out.
