Does the "Q" button work the same on the R5 as the Canon 5D Mark IV? I've researched and found people frustrated with this and I'm wondering if Canon addressed this with an update. I'm thinking about purchasing the R5 camera, but wanted to look into this first.
Also, does setting the af eye function to be enabled all the time hinder other types of photos like landscapes? Is it easy to switch back and forth? One more question: In researching setting up BBF, a few have redesigned the "*" button. I like to use that button for AE w/ hold. Is that still an option on the R5?
I have no first-hand experience with the 5D IV, but I'll try to help.
It appears the Q button operates differently on the R5. I believe this is inherently due to the implementation of the electronic viewfinder (EVF) and how the rear LCD and EVF work together. There is some ability to change how the two R5 displays work, but I don't think it's possible to set the R5 so the "Q" button has the same behavior as it does on the 5D IV with it's optical viewfinder and rear LCD.
Having eye detection on all the time can hinder other types of photos. There are a few ways to switch back and forth, including assigning a button.
AE Hold is an option for the * button.

There is a learning curve but I didn't have any real problem adjusting to the new Q button. I didn't have any frustration. When not shooting people or animals, I use one of the other AF modes.

Thank you for your reply.
I have yet again another question. I see the RF 70-200 lens doesn't have an extender to work with it. I shoot sports with my 70-200 f2.8 II plus the 2x extender. This is a concern. Can I use my 70-200 plus the extender in the RF adaptor? Wow! That would be long and heavy though.
I use my 300 +1.4X III+adapter + R5 frequently.

Good to know. I have the camera in my shopping cart, just checking a few things before I pull the plug.

You should be able to download the manual from this link. Go thru the menu (or guessing the custom menu settings) settings, features, etc. The R5 is one of the best bang for the dollar camera system purchases right now, IMHO. I feel it hits that sweet spot between performance to dollars. Have fun.

Thank you tcthome:
I purchased it last night. I will download the manual.

Tracey the Canon manual is 971 pages and difficult to find specific information. I suggest you purchase David Busch's "Canon EOS R5/R6". Much easier to find solutions and easier to understand.

I was just looking at that. I will. Thanks

I use my 70-200 f:4 plus 1.4X extender on my RP with no issues.

Great! Good to know. I was concerned about that.
For BBF, I use the AF-ON button. I also use the C1-C3 custom programs a lot with tailored settings for each, such as C1 set for BBF spot focus for landscapes or animals, C3 set for shutter button focus and animal eye recognition for BIF and moving animals.
I find the Canon manual and David Busch's book both to be lacking in the details that I've needed help with. I've found more helpful information in UHH posts and in YouTube than the manuals.
The R5 is a great camera!
