I guess I'm an old fart. I have both a D850 and Z6 mirrorless with a variety of lenses. The autofocus is always faster than the manual focus, so I guess I'm not overly concerened with fractions of a second.

I have yet to see any significant image degradation using the extender, in contrast to adding the 1.7x extender to the 70-200, which added significant CA at the edges.

In reference to your statement above , I think you are saying that you use an extender on a sony 70-200 which is attached to a Sony a74iv....is that correct? if so, would you pls snd me a pic of the extender on the sony lens. I do not want to purchase the 100-400mm lens I just need a bit more range on the 70-200 attached to my Sony A7riii.

IMO, the Sony E mount extenders render excellent image quality. The far surpass the canon l mount extenders and on the A9 and A1 unnoticeably as fast as using without.

I have not found an extender for the Sony 70-200mm lens. Maybe there is a third party ext for the Sony 70-200mm but so far I have be unable to find one. Sony rep sez there is no extender to the 70-200mm lens.

Yes....e mount ....Sony 70-200mm with an extender and the extender attached to a Sony A7Riii...

Sony 70-200 f/2.8 plus 1.4 and 2.0x work ok with the A7R111. Better with the a9 and A1. The newer one so they san is better. Also with the 100-400.

You are using the wrong terminology perhaps.
Sony does not make extensions.
They do make teleconverters...
