Great information and I appreciate your help. Thank you so much and have a great weekend.
I just went through the hard choice of which all-weather camera to purchase and the the winner was the Olympus TG-1. I have not used it underwater yet but I will this winter in the Caribbean. I also liked the idea of having a camera that could take a fall when I am skiing as well as function in cold snowy conditions. Pictures so far look great but I still use my Nikon DLS as my go to camera.

Can you tell me what camera does the best shots underwater and is the most reliable camera for not leaking and for shock? I'm looking for a camera that will give me great shots on a river, in and out of the water and can handle the quality for the action shots as well. There are a lot out there and I'm new at this. I appreciate your input and knew your answers would help me. Thank you so much.
I recently purchased a Sony DSC-TX20. WP to 5 mtrs & shock proof. My only connection to water so far is to wash off some spilt honey. But it's handy to be able to. I'm not big on being underwater myself. That's shark territory & I never see sharks up here on land taking pic's of us.
I have the AW100 Nicon and love it .I use it for w/w rafting and skiing. it is a great camera and also has about 15 different settings you can shoot with it also has hd video and gps it costs about 300.00. w/p to 33ft. also shockproff check it out I think you will like it.

I recently bought a Nikon AW 100 and the first time I used it underwater (less than a metre deep) it not only took the most disgusting photos but wouldn't download. It now won't switch on at all. I sent it back to where I bought it and they sent it off to the Australian "repairer." They claim to have tested it to its limits and could not fault it and also claim its my fault water got inside it. I don't believe for one minute that they have the facility to test these things to their limit and now I own a new camera that doesn't work. My only recourse is to claim it on insurance.

And lets not forget the best one Pentax WG2
The lens is placed in the middle of the camera body so you don't get your finger in the way plus you can hold it like a real camera, good rugged build. One draw back is the small battery.

The Nikonos V is a FILM camera. If you are looking for digital images, forget that one.
Some digitals are the Nikon AW100 good to 33', the Olympus TG-1 good to 40', and the Canon Powershot D20 also good to 33'. The Nikon has a $70 off sale going on right now which makes it by far the least expensive of the three. There are others too, but quality is seriously lacking in many of them.

MT Shooter: Thank you! You're right on! When this topic first came up, I suggested the Pentax. Thereafter, I all the replies that followed mine went into to usual Canon/Nikon love-in. The Pentax waterproof cameras, both P&S and DSLR, are the best available for reliability, durability, performance, and reasonable costs.
Thank you so much for the information.

Bought the Olympus TG-1 recently, as it has the best serious reviews. Fast lens and works well on low light. Taking it to Hawaii in 10 days. Had a Canon G10 with waterproof canon housing. Too bulky and was always worried that camera on its own would get damaged in offshore sailing with waves.
got the TG1 for a trip to Egypt last year, underwater shots great , the big surprise going around the temples Valley of the kings etc the tg1 with its f2 lens just took the shot, my SLR was was bouncing focus beams off the walls and struggled to focus. the tg1 won the day albeit without external flashes and so to help the slr.
