To saying the M series is only popular in Japan it is also popular in the UK, I have one the M50 and I think it is a fine camera and all my EF and EFS lenses work fine with Canon adaptor.

I had bad knees and the lighter weight of the M50 is fine when using my large lenses I use a tripod

R means R cameras are better than YRs cameras.

What makes you believe the D in the model designation actually stands for anything, other than part of the model designation. What does the G in Canon G1X or any other G series Canon digital camera stand for? And, if DSLR'S are called DSLR'S, why do so many people refer to MILC'S as simply mirrorless? None of my bridge or super zooms have a mirror in them, which makes them "mirrorless", yet they aren't referred to as mirrorless cameras!

By the way, the R is taken from the first letter in "Reimagine Optical Excellence".
What makes you believe the D in the model designat... (show quote)

So the EOS R5 is the “Electro-Optical System Reimagine Optical Excellence 5” camera. That’s quite a mouthful! 😳

Canon DSLRs have the suffix D for digital (1D, 5D, 7D, etc.)

Just curious.

Canon's "R" stands for the same thing as Nikon's "Z", Sony's "A", Leica's "M", Fuji's "X" or Panasonic's "G".

For someone as knowledgeable about cameras and photography, you sure got this one wrong.
We've already established the R in Canon R series came from the word Reimagined. Sony's A stands for Alpha. The Z in Nikon's Z series doesn't represent a word, it's basically the Nikon N flipped on its side; N = Z. The M in Leica's M series is the first letter of the Deutsch word Messsucher, which translates to Rangefinder. I'm fairly sure Panasonic/Lumix uses the letter G to identify Micro Four Thirds cameras and the letters DMC stand for Digital Mirrorless Camera. For example, Panasonic Lumix DMC-G1. I'm not 100% sure but I believe Fujifilm uses the X to identify their Mirrorless camera models. The X doesn't have a specific meaning, but it may have come from the word Explore. In a way you are correct as all the named manufacturers use the aforementioned letters in their naming conventions for cameras that do not have mirrors.
