What is science?? I know the answer but I am curious if others know. So---What is science?? At it's most basic level, What is science???

There are 2 types of science.
First, to me, science is the search of absolute truth and then using that truth for the betterment of humanity and not to ruin lives or seek control over peoples lives.
Second is political science where the science is politically funded and the conclusions arrived at are solely based on what the political agenda is no matter the truth or not. (Example the Chinese flu hoax and global warming hoax).

At it's most basic. science is neither of those things/ You can search for truth any number of ways. The term "political Science" is not science at all. It is better described as political history. And Politics and Science do not belong in the same semtence. (my bias is showing)

To me science is a PROCESS for objectively assaying observable EVIDENCE derived through EXPERIMENT to confirm a HYPOTHESIS concerning a specific subject. If the hypothesis is verified, a THEORY may be developed. Further CONFIRMATORY EXPERIMENT(s) will verify or disprove the theory.
The process of PEER REVIEW by other workers in the field of the theory/hypothesis is employed to find if there is verification of the assertions and whether the evidence supports the validity of the hypothesis and the METHODS and analysis of the supporting data.
A THEORY may transpose into a LAW if there is a way to definitively prove (usually mathematically) that the theory is explanatory in all manners.
Examples of LAWS would be Kepler’s laws of orbital mechanics, or Newton’s laws of gravitation and mechanics. (These LAWS were REFINED by Einstein when it was realized there were unrecognized conditions (near the speed of light) where mass is related to velocity, and the effects of mass and its affects upon orbital mechanics and the travel-direction and velocity of light and similar materials).
Ultimately, science appears to be a voyage of discovery and explanation by observation and experiment to verify concepts that may be rationally explainable. This validation is to explain, within the provable base of current knowledge, the reasons some particular relationship or condition exists. The use of the scientific method transcends unsubstantiated “belief”. Examples of such unverifiable “beliefs” would be the flat-earth, hollow-earth, or young earth ASSERTIONS, which do not even rise to the level(s) of HYPOTHESIS, let alone THEORY, and certainly not LAW.

Science is something the ignorant will always reject.
Science is the root of all evil.
Science is the human attempt to explain reality. Each proposed explanation must be verifiable and reproducible.
Each explanation that is considered to be true and accurate, is subject to revision if a new aspect of reality becomes evident (for example, what happens at near speed of light) or a new aspect of reality simply appears (for example, new infectious organisms).

Lord Fauci says that he is science!

At it's most basic, you nailed it. Science is a METHOD. Form an hypothesis (belief) and test it. And test it again, and again. Form a theory as a result. Test it. test it again and again. as a result regect it or accept it. As an aside--Fauci's statement--"I am science" is the boast of an idiot, suffering from a Nepolionic (sp?) complex as a result of his extreme short stature

I don’t believe he said “‘I am science”
His quote properly was
“” Attacks on me, quite frankly, are attacks on science,” Fauci said Wednesday. “All of the things I have spoken about, consistently, from the very beginning, have been fundamentally based on science. Sometimes those things were inconvenient truths for
Some of you put this in quotes”” I am science”” and attribute that quote to Fauci. Not true
Get off your political bandwagons. Trump didn’t like him so you don’t.

And the same could be said for Science, but not religion.

What Fauci actually said was "I represent science":
“Exactly,” replied Fauci, who heads the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. “To me, that’s unbelievably bad, because all I want to do is save people’s lives. And anybody who’s looking at this carefully realizes that there’s a distinct anti-science flavor to this. So if they get up and criticize science, nobody’s going to know what they’re talking about. But if they get up and aim their bullets at Tony Fauci, well, people can recognize there’s a person there.”
“So it’s easy to criticize,” he added. “But they’re really criticizing science, because
I represent science [emphasis added]. That’s dangerous. To me, that’s more dangerous than the slings and the arrows that get thrown at me. And if you damage science, you are doing something very detrimental to society long after I leave.”
Although it is indeed Fauci's job to represent science, he seems to have forgotten the times he has mis-represented science. And did so deliberately. Hence his lack of credibility with many, whether pro-Trump, anti-Trump, or Trump-ambivalent.
