My pastor has said that "Pain is inevitable, misery is choice."
It is what it is, the people have spoken, we need to get on with what we have and work diligently to change what we can.

LAST NIGHT I CRIED (Written by Anna)

I cried last night for a Great Nation lost as we know it.

I cried last night for all the children who will never know but by story about what a great Nation this was as some parents, the grandparents and great grandparents knows it now.

I cried last night for each unborn baby that won't have chance to have dreams.

I cried last night for the dream that Martin Luther King had. That all men and women be treated equal.

I cried last night for those who are taking away our rights by tearing our Constitution apart piece by piece.

I cried last night as I thought of other things that could be tore down also, all because someone may not like it. Mount Rushmore, The Statue of Liberty just to name a couple.

I cried last night for our Military and their families for those who fought and paid the ultimate price with their life and for those who are fighting now for our freedom as we know it now because, those dreams are soon to tumble down as well.

I cried last night as I lay and thought of things, like being able to at one time pray in school and say the pledge. All those days are gone because someone decided they didn't believe in God and wanted them to be removed from our schools.

I cried last night when I thought there would only be a little thought here and there to tell a story to children who may not believe them. Or would tell the person "oh your old" and laugh the story off.

I cried last night for each and every elected official who let their country and it's people down.

I cried last night for the thought of maybe one day in the not so distant future that I may not be able to attend a church due to people who don't want it to happen.

I cried last night for each and every blood drop by someone who loved this country.

I cried last night for each Police Officer as they are going to be the ones who have to do what they are told about keeping the laws under control.

I cried last night for each and every news reporter who kept the true things off the air so people would not know what was really happening and laugh about it.

I cried last night as I could see my dreams for my great grand babies going up in smoke because people hate the US so bad they want to take it away from us.

The Republicans lost any hope of regaining control in the Senate the minute that Republican men decided to open their traps and make idiotic comments about something that will never, ever affect them: abortion. Todd Akin (Missouri), Richard Mourdock (Indiana) and John Koster (Washington) … these MEN – and I want to emphasize their gender here – can take great pride for the role they played in handing g Obama a victory yesterday. Let’s see, we have Aiken with is brilliant comments on how a woman’s body has a way of shutting down the pregnancy mechanisms during a rape. We have Mourdock telling us that if a rape results in pregnancy it’s actually a gift from God, and we have Koster – a minor player, yes, but who cost female votes nonetheless – who said he (again, a MALE) opposed abortion in all cases except for the “rape thing.” These fools took what was arguably a woman’s greatest fear – rape at the hands of a violent stranger – and turned it into a treatise on the wonders of a women’s reproductive system knowing the difference between horrid violence and passion; a gift from God, or just a “thing.” Their brain-dead comments on abortion managed to push even more women into Obama’s column. All three of these fools lost. Mourdock and Aiken should have won. They were favored until their abortocentrism came through. These were two Senate seats that could have a made a difference. This election was close … and I guess we’ll never know how much damage they did. We do know, though, that it didn’t help one bit. These three obsessed men didn’t gain one single vote for themselves or for Romney. Not that it matters any more --- not that there’s going to be any real chance of turning things around in four years --- but the Republican Party is not doing itself any favors by catering to fools like this. If this Party wants to get serious about winning, it needs to find a way to appeal to women and get rid of this obsession over abortion. Abortion will NEVER be illegal. All you’re doing is chasing away voters. Period. The end.

What a load. I ask myself if people can actually believe that rape is Gods will. I ask myself if there is such a thing as a legitimate rape. I ask myself if it is OK to just let a person die because they cannot afford health insurance and we would be better off without them. I ask myself if we are better people because we have a free press. I ask myself if we deserve the right to be treated fairly and with respect by those who are entrusted with keeping our laws. I ask myself why people would be so self centered as to ask that there religion be promoted in out public schools. I ask myself who could possibly think that our national symbols such as the Statue of Liberty and Mount Rushmore would be torn down, really dumb thought. I ask myself who could possibly cause somebody to believe such nonsense. I ask myself who could be so silly to think that our great country would ban religion. What total nonsense.

Really?? Let's start with with this very thread. The unborn were mentioned in 1 of the 15 lines in Anna's writing in the OP. It was vaguely mentioned on a couple of other posts (1 from each side) among other points. Your post was the first and only so far to make abortion the main/only topic.

So who is obsessed with abortion in this very thread? Check the mirror.

Perhaps you missed the phony "War on Women". I'm surprised it wasn't mentioned in fund raising appeals for your guy. There was a lot of fearmongering on this board about abortion and birth control because the economy still sucks from lack of attention and malpractice. Gotta win somehow. It worked.

Some pointed out that an pro-life plank was in the Republican party platform like it was some new threat. It's been there for 30 years or so. The Dems have a pro-abortion plank. What's new?

Couldn't run on the economy so ... here's some links.

Anna,
I read your post that you wrote. It was very well said and to the point. It reminded me of the speech John Brown gave just before they hanged him.
I am at a loss for words... This country is well beyond the point of bankruptcy for which there simply no escape. Very soon the United States will be a third world country. China is already questioning our financial stability to repay the loan they gave us. Our children are taking out huge student loans that they will never be able to pay back. All the jobs they have ever hoped to have, have gone overseas. The U. S. banking system will be looking for these governments insured loans to be paid back by a government that is broke. No country is going to lend us the money to bail out the banking system again. When that happens it will take down the rest of the world that is dependent on us.
I feel an ill wind. The wolf is at the door. Our house of cards is ready to fall.
In the next four years there will be total anarchy. More of the middle class will lose their jobs. The poor will get poorer. People will lose their homes. The Welfare system will collapse. (They have been dependent on the middle class for their tax money that will not be forthcoming). Desperate people do desperate things. Rioting and looting will be rampant. Martial Law will be declared by the President. The U.S. Constitution will be suspended.
The signs are there for a Second Revolutionary War, only this time we will not be fighting another country. We will be fighting our own government.

If you look at the political landscape honestly, you will find people on both sides who are capable of compromise. Unfortunately, there don't seem to be leaders on either side who understand it.

Your wording itself is telling. While it may not have been intentional on your part, the concept of "Perhaps now we can introduce compromise into their lexicon." conveys an image of the person who thinks himself the superior imposing his vocabulary on the one he thinks inferior.

If both sides seek to understand compromise together there is the possibility of success. If one side seeks to impose compromise on the other (as your sentence construction suggests), it will be an exercise in futility for both.

Well, The Republican Party leadership sold their soles to the far extreme right winger Tea Party Express. Most signed a pledge with Grover Norquist not to raise revenues. If they break away from that pledge they will have the relentless money machine attack them in their next re-election bid. They should be signing a pledge with their American voters who elected them into office. The Supreme court opened up the door to allow money to flow into our political system without ever having to inform us where it came from. We have no one to blame for all our problems but ourselves. Most of us believe that God willed a raped women's conception as God's will that she got pregnant and that she will have to bear the pregnancy and etc. This is nothing but our political system having problems with the religious far right extremists attempting to take over our country. There is no common sense being applied when these attempts are happening. We can give thanks that Romney and Ryan did not prevail.

Anna:

Read your post. It was emotional and sincere. May I make two suggestions?

FIRST: Take a 45 minute walk outside--in the pasture, along a country road, in a park or on the city streets. I guarantee you'll feel better when you finish--guarentee it!

If you resolve to repeat it four or five days a week, it will be a life changing event. I guarentee that also.

SECOND: If I may, you have made an assumption about the world--about what is "real"--then cry when events don't match your assumption.

It is the assumption you cry about, not reality.

That way is folly. You will cry for eternity.

In a nation of 300,000,000 people, there are no black and white answers; there are only shades of grey.

Inform yourself on the issues that concern you. If you have a one-word answer, you don't understand the issue.

You don't have to like 'reality,' you just have to recognize it. Feel free to work to change it, but remember 299,999,999 other people have their ideas on the subject too.

Some of them may not agree with you.

The mass of all of you, milling around in confusion, constitute 'reality.'

Learn all that you can; change what you can; then take another walk, and laugh.

Really, it works if you try it.

Hang in there, don't worry, be happy.

That is a problem, isn't it? And why the Republicans are responsible for most of the national debt with their "borrow and spend" economics. The Democrats are trying a pay as you go plan with the dreaded "tax and spend" anathema.

None of it is "free stuff." None, but the most uneducated among us, believe that.

So, the question is: do you want a "pay as you go" plan with tax and spend or a "let's borrow trillions from China" with a borrow and spend plan? Borrow and spend didn't work for Reagan, Bush I or Bush II. It has also not worked for Obama because no one wants to actually pay the money back that's being borrowed. That would result in tax increases and we know who is dead set against any tax increase.

Ideally, someone would think about cutting government spending, but neither major political party has taken that route in any practical, efficient manner.

You can't go into two wars and lower taxes and lower debt also, simple math.
