Thanks for sharing this. I use aperature priority mode all the time, unless the scene becomes too dark, and I learned a few things here!

Which one of these modes do you use for your landscape shots? Here's an interesting video on why you should use
Aperture Priority mode.

I always shoot in manual mode. I prefer not to let my camera decide for me.

He's OK. I didn't watch the entire "AD" but I did notice the motion of water (amount of blur in falls for example) aperture mode is a nice way of catching the amount of blur.

So he's OK but it's an AD so consider the source and experiment

I agree that M +Auto Iso is preferable in most situations. I would add in Topaz Denoise AI. I took some pics of an Owl at a Wildlife Rehab benefit dinner. The light was VERY low to the point that I really couldn't see the bird really well. The attached was with a Canon R5 16-35 mm f3.2 1/250th The auto Iso went up to 25600. The unzoomed pic actually looked pretty clean but when zoomed 4x and the exposure level was brought up on LRC there was a lot of noise. Topaz wiped the noise clean.

Very nice picture.

The camera doesn't decide, it simply suggests....

I disagree, the camera suggests nothing, someone who wrote the software is making the suggestion.

Since my camera is a film camera, it does not have any software. I use a Nikon F2. I am waiting for my Z6ii to arrive. I will set up the different user modes for specific types of photography.

When discussions like this erupt I keep coming back to the thought that the proper exposure (or focus) is determined by the photographer not what tools you use to set the triad of aperture/shutter speed/ISO. If they are set “properly” you the camera doesn’t care how they were determined. And as I used to preach to my daughter, “Those numbers at the bottom of your viewfinder mean something so look at them!” Any particular mode is certainly not the key to better results. The mode I might use is situational. Yes, I use aperture priority often because aperture is the key choice to me. Uh, it is the priority. But when shooting panoramas for a wide angle shot manual mode is essential to achieve invisible stitching and I am not capturing motion. I suggest practice rather that asking for advice.

If it matters, some options may only be available in some modes. For example, I just found out that while either mode can shot images with different exposures on the Canon 60D, you can only shift the center setting under Aperture mode, i.e., -2, -1, and 0 versus 0 and +/- 1, etc.

Maybe you need a firmware upgrade ? Canon has probably transferred that coder to the cafeteria or valet parking.

The camera neither decides or suggests. It follows a strict set of rules and when you know those rules you know what it's going to do and you can decide that would be OK or not.

That's what we're saying. Just in a different way.

Hmm, since I am the one that Titled the Post I guess your comment is directed at me. Don't worry, I take no offense. I am impressed by your ability to derive a person's knowledge from just six words.

Hmmmm yourself. YOUR post had nothing to do with mine. Take all the offense you want, you are incorrect! My post was a direct response to someone else, whatever you said was inconsequential.
