I am unsure why you would like to use the ISP software over another mail client anyway. When ever we sign up to an ISP we get disks, cables, routers, modems etc. All you need is the telephone line and a wireless router or other means of connecting. If you plug the ethernet cable into your machine the internet side of things works straight off. I never recomend using their own software. As for wireless it is simply a case of pairing the device.

Depending what operating system you are running Outlook or windows live mail are pretty decent email clients. I would use these anyway and uninstall the comcast stuff.

mremery's last comment and links should show you how to configure a 3rd party mail client. AOL were always buggers for their internet software they insisted you installed. I always set things up manually.

I never had anything good to say about Comcast, no matter where they operate.
They buy their exclusivity from the politicians of an area for cable services and then provide the rudest, unprofessional services to the people forced to use their system.
That's what monopoly is all about.
Their only concern is your money.

Call again, you may get a Tech that knows something. I have Xfinity and have never had any problems. Maybe an unninstall and reinstall will help.

I have Xfinity for telephone, internet and TV. Xfinity had their own email service, I didn't use it. Instead switched from windows live to gmail which works really well. Had a problem with internet browser, which wouldn't let me upload photos to This (UHH) site and some other, not all, sites. Switched to Google Chrome. Problem solved and everything works fine. gmail and Google Chrome works well with the comcast bundle. Hope this helps.

We have a problem that evidently started a couple of weeks ago following an update. Our email service is Comcast Xfinity, and since the update we haven't been able to open jpeg attachments. We have this problem on two computers, but on iPad, attachments open as usual. No problem with Windows Live Mail either. We think that maybe some of the security settings were changed when the program updated, but we haven't been able to get any help from the ISP. They tell us that nobody has ever called them with anything like we describe, and their suggestion is for us to buy a service with them. Has anyone else had this same type problem? Any suggestions would really be appreciated.

Do they have a help number to call. We have Time Warner, and I can call and get a solution within a few minutes.

Have just started reading this thread this morning. It sounds like Mremery's diagnosis has been right on. If the 2 websites he has provided to you cannot help resolve the problem then I would say the next step would be to uninstall then reinstall the Xfinity software as Jjestar suggested.

If you do that, make sure the Xfinity is completely uninstalled (check for folders in your explore menu that don't always get deleted), then use the original installation disks you received when you signed on for the service. I would NOT go to their website for the latest installation package at this time. During the installation process, if you have the option to go express or custom install I would go custom. With the exception of advertisement toolbars (uncheck those)their recommendations are typically the same as the express install. If you see anything that asks if you want to receive auto updates, uncheck the box or click no. After or during the installation process, if a window comes up asking you if you want to check for updates, click or check no. Then test to see if you can open your pictures correctly. If yes, you have to determine if you ever want to accept updates from the provider again.

As a general rule I typically turn ALL auto-updating requests off. This is for 2 reasons: One, my laptop is old and sometimes the auto updates running in the background really slow it down. But the main reason is because I am an adhereant to the 1st law of Technicain that states: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

I think you have lost your opening system and that is a setting. When you right click your computer should offer or ask what you want to open the attachment with.On my desk top it is usually windows explorer. The problem I had was I could not find it in my computer programs is is usually in a hidden file to protect it from getting deleted by mistake. Mine was hidden in the application data file.
I had a system tech find it and restore it to my programs list.

If you have a professional model it may be free help from your computer company had Del come into my computer and reset it.If you know of a tech that will come on your computer they can usually fix things like that quite fast.

Dixiegirl,
Have you tried Xfinity Lite: Here's an excerpt from a Comcast forum.

See if it works if you switch to the Lite version of XfinityConnect.

To do: Open XfinityConnect, click of Preferences> General. Check the box for the Lite version. Close and re-open XfinityConnect and you should now be in Lite. Now try.
Let us know if that works for you.

Here is a thought....first of all I have nothing but problems with comcast...and outlook...used to have it at work and it was a mess.

Try another email provider..my wife uses yellowstone.net...yep after the park. she has no problems...lots of space and its free...she's used it for years and it downloads faster and better than mine...which is usa.net...and I pay 30. a year for it.

this happened to a friend of mine some time back. the auto upgrade locked all his photos and was told to buy their program to unlock them. when i looked into his cpu it turned out that the upgrade was the reason his photos where were locked. this program also disables the restore features. i thought this problem was known by people but guess it is still out there. caution: if you buy their program it will happen again then you have to buy another program. it never ends

Dixie, try a system restore picking a date prior to the update. It could be that the update has a conflict with your Xfinity program. Doing this restore should put everything back in order. This happened to me about a week ago and my problem was a security auto download from Microsoft. But the restore should, as I said, straighten everything out.
