Just enjoy your visit most likely won't be awkward at all. Funny thing is I did a photo trip with a photographer I really liked and thought his work was amazing. Turned out his photoshop skills were way better then his actual photography. We had a discussion about changing reality epically in travel photos that might be used by a tourism board. He saw nothing wrong with putting a lake where there wasn't one or taking two features from diffrent places and merging them.

I got off subject, anyway go and enjoy something like that can lead to good conversation

I 'might' meet up with another photog who lives close to me. She is a pro (as defined by our community) and I've admired her work for years. I feel like I'm meeting a celebrity. I guess I find it funny because I am not a real 'fan' of anyone that people would consider famous, other than photogs. I could walk by a celebrity and not care, but with photogs, it's so different. And, I wonder what she's thinking of me - I'm almost horrified that she may have checked my work out and actually knows who I am and now knows I'm not far from her.

I'm hoping I can stay cool and not do something stupid....

I've met a lot of pros and they all enjoy talking about photography and are willing to discuss almost anything photographic. Don't be worried, you will not embarrass yourself unless you spill something on her during lunch or coffee or whatever. Then you can be embarrassed.

In a situation like this, more depends upon her than upon you. She's a pro, and you're someone who likes taking pictures. Will she approach this meeting as a superior creature, or will she be pleasant and friendly? It's really not your problem, and you shouldn't be concerned about it. It's up to her to prove herself pleasant and friendly to you. You're not a competitor, simply an admirer. Have fun with the meeting and don't take anything too seriously.

Let us know how it turns out.

Sorry for the faux pas on my part. As you can see from my avitar Eddie and I would have a difference of opinion.
no no no Eddie idolizes JH well who doesn't. I saw a documentary on the man that did many of the JH photos we know and love he said jimmy was fun because he always dressed to the hilt. The man had it going on I guess with his ward robe. His music speaks for it's self!

You are not doing too bad,had quick squiz at your site,so go meet her.You will be pleasantly surprised.
Yours truly is often mistaken for a world famous rugby photographer,Peter Bush.
He is now in on the joke and we have great theoretical discussions on a great many subjects...lol

I actually am a competitor, that's the thing. I have a business and for all she knows I'm busy shooting. I'm on my way, but probably not to her level yet. Plus, I have work and school that get in the way of progressing right now. I'm sure you all have photogs that you admire and inspire you. She's not the top of the list but somewhere on there. I've realized from looking at her work is that it's technically clean and timeless, which are two qualities that I want and think I *almost* have. But ya, I think she's thinking nothing of it.....and I think she's pretty nice although she did bark at me once in a forum. So we'll see......

I had a similiar experience a couple of years ago and found, that after a few minutes, we were just like long lost friends. Just be yourself.

Hey there! I am also in the Boston area, closer to Foxboro! I would love to meet up with YOU to learn a thing or two after viewing your website! Great portrait work! But I feel the same way...that you would look at MY photos and see them out of focus...poor lighting, etc. haha....we photographers are a weird lot (and just a little insecure about our work!), yes? You have nothing to fear...your work is great....truly though, I would love to hook up with other photographers in the area...need to get a camera club going! I have SOOOO much to learn and why I read this UHH site daily! Sometimes I just THINK I am a pro...other days I have more confidence....sigh...I would even love to hook up with someone as a second shooter for weddings....I think I could learn so much doing that.

Hey, anytime you want to meet let me know! It would be good for me too. My friends are not photogs and get tired of listening to my ramblings after a while, lol. My husband will listen but it's not like he really gets it. He also likes to downplay my business instead of promoting it.....he just says to people that I like taking pictures. In other words, point and shoot....ha ha ha ha.

There are "seasons" of high volume work and there are dry spells....all part of this work. Photography is a brotherhood of indepedents with a creative gift few understand....except other photographers. Enjoy your meeting and each other's company!
