Good Morning Hoggers....

My wife and I are in Upstate Vermont (Burlington) right now and it seems we a "slightly" early the changing of the color for the leaves... We would dearly love to get come "calender worthy" shots of Autumn Scenery...

In the last several days, we have traveled the area of Stowe, coming from Maine, and we are seeing only about 10% to maybe 20% (???) in the coloring...

My question is... We have the ability to go anywhere in Vermont or New York and then south.....

... Can anyone give us "actual current reports" for locations of "full-color change happening right now ???"

Thanks so much in advance for your input and your help

Cheers

In general, September is too early for the east coast. We always do our fall foliage trip in October for the North East. This year, we are in Colorado, and September is the right time due to altitude.

Remember too that altitude will play a significant factor in determining which areas are exhibiting fall color. Higher elevations will typically exhibit more color earlier in the foliage season than will areas of lower elevation in the same part of a state or region.

Remember the old saying, "It's not nice to fool Mother Nature." She'll bring out her palette of colors on her time, not ours.

She is also generous. There is a season of peaks but the dates vary by altitude and other factors that are better known to foresters. If you have time to get around it's hard not to find some great spots even if some areas have passed their time. My favorite is the Adirondack region west of Lake Champlain.

Haven't used it where I went some place to verify accuracy. Every year is a little different. Temps, rain, etc. Have fun.

You are at the start of the season. Another two to four weeks will be better.

As a frequent Vermont skier (when my knees weren;t made of titanium). Peak color is usually about Oct !0. And travels south about 50 miles per day. This is an estimate and varies with spring and summer weather. But 1st week in Oct is still a good estimate
