Excellent series of action sports action photos! (although I would enjoy seeing the cheerleaders more😁). I also believe that the D4 would be the better choice of controlling digital noise when a higher ISO is required.

Thanks Bruce. I shot a game last week using Nikon D500 70-200 2.8 no room for cropping noise level was around 7200. Here a few samples again using the d500

That is impressive for 300mm equivalent you must have been close to the field. From my understanding most sports photographers require 500mm (or greater).

That is true. However shooting with a D500 and the 70-200 2.8 on a crop camera that make the mm about 350mm was still to short. I was right on the field next to the coaches.

Here are a bunch of comparisons. I'm sure there's some mention of night and action.

D4 is full frame, D500 is 1.5 magnification. The D500 is the baby D5. Either would be a great choice but if it were me take the D500 and enjoy the game!

You really can't go wrong with either camera.

Hey Jules - Shot a D500 & D5 with 24-70 and 70-200 are 2.8 on night football games - Never had a problem with noise. Sold my D500 (Which I should NEVER had done) and purchased a Z6II with FTZ adapter. Works just fine with my G lens however, I don't like the EVF delay when shooting in H* (14fps) mode. Looking to NIKON to fix it with a software update. It has great color and noise is almost nonexistent. For me The D500 will serve you well or if you can. find one - Take a look at a D5. I LOVE MINE -Take a look on my site at the football pictures I have for this year so far.

Good luck in your search
Bobby
