D4 vs D500

I am looking for comments on shooting night football using a Nikon D500 or D4 coupled with a 300 2.8 lens.

I like the D4 for low noise (I own both cameras), however you might find the 300mm lens a little short and with the D500 it will give you a crop factor of 450mm at no loss in aperture. So basically it is a toss up, if the field lighting is good you might be better off with the D500.

Thanks Bruce. I shot a game last week using Nikon D500 70-200 2.8 no room for cropping noise level was around 7200. Here a few samples again using the d500

Epic as always Jules... you have truly mastered your D500 with the 70-200mm f/2.8!
You already know I truly cherish and appreciate what FF brings to the table...
Tried the D500 and it was really great but not quite at the level of my D3 or D810.
At least for my visual statement. I'm certain others may have other needs...
Likely depends on one's client base...
Bottom Line? What do your clients think? At the end of the day nothing else really matters.

D4 will give you the opportunity to use higher ISO, and since it also has anti flicker, you needn't worry about shutter speed. Both cameras will produce great images, but the D4 will be better.

The D500 also has Anti Flicker.
More and more important capability for a camera as incandescent lighting disappears and LED lighting becomes more ubiquitous alongside fluorescent and other plasma lighting forms.

The D500 has a twin focusing motor like the D850 and D5, the D4 does not. And, I like to shoot slightly down wind from the action and get it coming at me, the 300 becomes like a 450 on the D500. I like to shoot with a 600 f4, so at 450 at least it is closer.
I like to shoot Group Auto Focus, the D4 does not have this excellent focusing system, leave it at home where it will be happier.

I have both of these cameras and use them for HS Sports. (Football and Softball) Both are great in low light. I love the look under the Lights. Jack up to ISO to whatever need to get the desired shutter speed. I use a 70-200 F2.8. I use the 500 for football because the focus tracker is better than the D4. Also get more reach via crop factor.
