Yes, Canon and Sony appeal more to the everyday consumer. I have Canon cameras for the L lenses. I started out in photography back in 1966 with a Pentax Spotmatic because I preferred the Takumar SMC 50/1.4 to anything Nikon had at the time. But Nikon kept ahead with the press crowd, and Canon shot ahead of Pentax with the EOS launch. I have both Nikon and Canon pro digitals today, usually shoot with the smaller Fuji X camera, and with Bronica, Mamiya film cameras every chance I get.

I have bought a 1dxii. I googled up the manual. Try Amazon for guidebooks. Try u-tube. I certainly haven’t mastered mine, but ,I can take photos now. It has a sports mode that you can shoot in when you find it. There is also a quick guide available at B and H I believe. The camera is not designed for us amateurs, but I have accepted the challenge and will learn how to use it, at least rudimentally.

My friend, a press photog, had the 1DX while I have the Canon IDS Mark 111 we both agreed that the latter produced bigger and clearer enlargements.

The 1 Dx and its sports settings excel by having the capability to shoot at fast shutters speeds in low light, such as a gym or evening football game. It does this by its incredible ISO performance. You can shoot a relatively high ISO setting and not get a grainy photograph. With this in mind, try a shutter speed of 1,250; with f/2.8 (or your lowest aperture to blur your background); auto ISO and al servo setting allowing you to shoot approximately 8 to 10 frames per second. It also helps to learn a technique called back button focusing. Many articles have been written about that on the internet. Pick one suitable to Canon to learn the settings needed to activate the back button and deactivate focusing from the shutter button. These are general settings and will need to be modified at times. Learn to shoot on a Manual Mode setting, giving you total access to change these settings on the fly. Have fun! Do
