Eyglo Iliad is a local photographer. You can read her at iceland_photoshoo.

You must prove you have had your shots, you are still required to wear a mask, I will be there next week on a Viking tour and will report back on my findings. Viking is required to test every day on the ship, we will be tested at the airport upon arrival. The island is small and the country is taking precautions, they are still ORANGE on Covid.
We will be the first to arrive after Iceland lifted some restrictions. Private tours are out for now. Viking is the first to be allowed. Again, I will report back after I get back around July 4 or 5.

That's a shame. Netflix has a new series from Iceland - done in the Icelandic language. It's called Katlat.

I am currently in Iceland on a Tauck tour on a Ponant ship. We need proof of vaccination, had to register on line with Iceland to receive a QR code that must be shown before boarding the plane. Code is scanned prior to having a mandatory Covid test upon landing in Iceland. We had to quarantine in our hotel room until we received a message that we were negative for Covid. It took about 5 hours from when we were tested. Then no masks were required in Iceland. However our ship requires. a mask.

Person is a friend who had been there before. Had to cancel due to personal reasons. I don’t see a need to warn anyone.

In that case, ask your friend for a list of places to visit or just get a guide book. There are many interesting places, all well known and with good photo opportunities, and driving around is not a problem -- there are not tons of roads there.

Hunt’s Photo has an Iceland tour in early November that I’m going on. It includes an instructor from Hunt’s who is very good and an Icelandic photo guide for 10 days and eleven nights. When you go to the Hunts website, click on education, Photo Adventures. There are still openings.

Sounds like you had a great trip. This is the third time this trip has been cancelled/postponed due to Covid. We’re there for a week and hoping to get a guide for a portion and then rent a car and drive around on our own for a couple of days. I don’t know distances, we’re you able to stay in one place or did you change towns on your three day visit?

Try https://arcticexposure.is/about-us/. Skarpi Thrainsson is on w of the owners of the company. He is a fantastic photographer. He was a guide on a Muench trip I took to Iceland a couple of years ago, he is a wonderful guide. I suspect he can put together a trip for you.

Get some good travel guides and plan your trip yourselves. The Golden Circle is good and close in to Reykjavik, but you should get out to the north and east. My wife and I were there for a week a few years ago and I found plenty to shoot. I'd love to go back for a couple weeks and drive the Ring Road around the island. The Westfjords are beautiful. The numerous waterfalls provide spectacular photo opportunities. If you rent a car, as I did, get the volcanic dust insurance and be ready for mostly well maintained gravel roads (except in the interior, where you'll need four wheel drive), and watch for sheep! They are the biggest road "hazard" and pretty expensive should you hit one. Get a good wool sweater instead (only 240,000 kroner... One kroner is about a penny, or was in 2017).

The place can be expensive, but you can find ways to save. Still, a sandwich at Subway in Reykjavik is twice what you'd pay in the US. And skip the Blue Lagoons They are just a tourist trap. Reykjavik has a very nice community pool and hot tubs at a fraction of the cost, and next door to the city operated Hostel.

Its a wonderful place. Have fun!!

I made an error in my post on Iceland. The sweater wasn't 240,000 kroner, only 27,900 kroner, or $279. You get the tax refunded at the airport when leaving, in this case $79 or so.

I was also going to say that Diamond Beach and the Galcier Fjords on the south coast are worth the trip and not that far from Reykjavik. They are pretty well shot to death too....

When we were in Iceland, we worked with a terrific guide who specializes in working with photographers. Her email address is greta@greta.is. I highly recommend her.

Backcountry Journeys (https://backcountryjourneys.com/) is running a tour of Iceland in September. There are only 3 spots left open. You should contact them.

I was on their tours to Bryce Canyon and Zion Canyon National Parks in early April.
