Home Depot Military Discount Policy
Home Depot offers a 10% military discount to select military personnel year-round. All active duty military personnel, Reserve members, National Guard members, retired veterans, veterans with a service-connected disability rating, and their immediate family members are entitled to receive Home Depot’s military discount at all U.S. store locations.
All other former military personnel, such as those who have been honorably discharged but aren’t retired military members, aren’t eligible for the year-round military discounts but can receive a military discount on military holidays, including Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Veterans Day.

I find it weirdly ironic that you have chosen to post about veterans and Lowes on the day after Memorial Day when we honor veterans who have died in the line of duty and will never be faced with the conundrum you described.
I know it's just a coincidence but a weirdly ironic one.

I fully agree and in fact I spent the weekend trying to educate people to the difference between the two.
Us veterans have a day leave memorial day to honor the dead and I get highly offended by someone telling me happy memorial day since I have friends who are among the ones honored by the day.

This is an odd situation. Lowe's offers discounts to veterans, and it also has reserved parking for veterans. That's fine. What's odd is that Lowe's stores decorate those parking spaces in remembrance of the veterans. The result is a nice display, but veterans lose those special parking spaces. I wonder if they'll be complaints about that. They already have Handicap parking spaces, so if there are spaces for veterans and veterans' displays, that will leave fewer spaces for regular customers.
People like to complain, so I'm sure there will be all sorts of complaints. Someday, we'll find a way to make everyone happy.

Having been is sales for a long time, I will admit to get angry at some of the sleazy attempts made to bring in customers. I worked hard to provide Company coupons that were actually meaningful to my clients. The ones that I dislike most are the prices that are jacked up on the sales floor to offset the declaimed cuts for an event.
Many customer accomodatians are for looks.
Personally, even though having to use a walker, I try to park in a regular slot and walk to the location. There are many who are worse off than I am. There will be a time when I will need the nearer slots, but it is not now.
For me, Memorial Day is to remember the many who have died in wars not of their making, as well. There were, and are, many who died fighting who are not recognized and just about forgotten.

Is that you Jerry, complaining again? Give all of it a rest; it will do wonders for your health.

Some folks complain if you hang them with a brand new rope.
Some, even if you cut them down with a sharp knife!

That's strange. I bought a stove from Lowes and other appliances. Showed my VA ID card and got my 10% off. It's in the system. Never had a problem. Home Depot has me in the system, also, and never had a problem and that included flooring and counter tops. As for the Veteran's Parking spaces, just thanking the veteran for his or her service and it is only a few parking spaces.

The way I learned it was
Armed Services Day is for those who wear the uniform,
Veterans Day is for those who hung the uniform up, and
Memorial Day is for those who never got out of uniform

I am usually sad on Memorial Day, thinking about those that are buried.
I went to the National Cemetery near Nashville Tennessee yesterday. The local cub scouts had placed flags at every headstone. On the way out there was a sign that was made undoubtably by one of the adults that were with them. The top half was predesigned with cub scout info and the bottom was done with a marking pen stating
"HOPE YOU HAD FUN!!! in, say, 8 inch letters.
No thinking apparently, just good intentions?
I totally agree! Memorial day is a day for grieving, but I think the term "happy memorial day" began when the holiday was used to mark the beginning of the summer season. It turned commercial, with sales going on, like many other holidays. Most people have never lost a friend or relative but those of us who have get it!

I did complain and the store manager himself went out and readjusted the display so the parking was again available. Squeaky wheel!

Home Depot does not give a discount to all veterans. Only retired or if you have a VA id. Not all veterans are retired or go to the VA.

Nor IMHO, should ALL veterans automatically get one, . I served 37 months (US Army ‘67-‘69), but never ask for or expect a ‘military discount’. I received 36 weeks of electronics school, ending up in Germany working fairly normal hours. The way it happened I was sent to Europe instead of Vietnam. I saw a repair depot not a rice paddy and choppers and their brave pilots cycled out of ‘Nam, but never knew the hell both had seen.
Does that ‘entitle’ me? I’ve never felt that it did.
