Please reread post before being snarky, she said $350.ish ?.
Do you know what "?" means. I believe she is open to higher or lower prices if it fits with what she is looking for.
Do you know what "ish" means, I believe she again is open to alternatives.
And lastly, I was only being helpful trying to point her in the right direction. You have become very mean lately.
Have a great day, I will.

Bill, I appreciated your response to the OP. What you have is what I'm looking for as a pocket camera on vacation. Thanks.

The LX-10 is a terrific camera. The difference between that and the Sony RX100's is that the Sony's have a popup viewfinder that useful on the beach and on ships where I take a lot of my shots. Otherwise they're probably comparable and the Lumix's menus are easier to use. It's the best choice of the cameras without an EVF!

That is nice to hear. The Lumix has arrived and is charging. Making our way through the manual. So far, so good!

The "best" camera is the one you have with you. With that in mind, I recommend a cell phone.

Not only that, but more than the post creator read these posts and I personally find this Sony suggestion something that I plan to take under very serious consideration since my wife's old Casio Z57 just went to camera heaven. This would be perfect in more ways than one. Thank you BillNikon

$500.00 is way over budget.

Don't worry about it, there are others out here also in the market that would be very comfortable with a $473 price point, who were interested in this post.

Back off, others besides the author are obviously also interested in following this post for similar suggestions. Contribute positive comments or move on. I'm sure we can all read.

Interesting choice. I originally went with the DMC-ZS100 but was unhappy with the limited tele range. It has a 25-250mm (equiv) lens. The LX-10 only has a 24-72 and costs more but the lens has wider apertures. But both have the 1" sensor. There is also the DMC-ZS200 which has a 24-360mm (equiv) zoom and 1" sensor for even more $. You can compare them here:

I mention this because some vendors will accept returns for full refund allowing you to change your mind.

I agree.

We placed a higher value on the lower apertures vs longer zoom based on the type of photography my husband gravitates toward. For example, we just photographed our giant schnauzer. Black dogs are notoriously difficult to photograph. The camera did a lovely job, balancing the black nose, the black eyes, the black fur. Also, I believe the lower apertures will produce nice bokah for the close-up floral photography and portraits, wily grandchildren on the run, as well as chickens.

It all comes down to sensor size if you buy a camera with a high-quality lens and sensor. A 1" sensor with a 24-70mm reach will beat a smaller sensor (including ultra-zooms and smart phones) with a 25-1000mm reach if you shoot at the maximum reaches and make 8x10s of each of the same view. That's why most wedding photographers -- where image quality is paramount -- don't use lenses larger than 24-70 or 70-200mm. For many, the 24-70 is all they need even for their outdoor shots.

The only pocket camera I carry is the best one on the market because it does everything my big Sony's, Canon's and Nikon's do.
The Sony HX99. Zeiss (the best) 24-720 mm zoom, pop up viewfinder for accurate framing, shots RAW, auto fill flash at the press of a button, rear screen folds up for low angle shots, does panoramic shots, you can print up to 20X30 sharp prints. In other words, this little guy does it all, trust me on this.

You made me want one! At $475 it sounds like a great choice.

My camera of choice is the Cannon Powershot ELPH 360, about $200. It is true point and shoot (no viewfinder), but even in the sun you can find the horizon on the display. Just aim it at what you want to shoot and press the button. If you take a lot of pictures with it at one event, spare batteries are essential. And you must remove them to recharge them.
