What about the Panasonic Lumix LX10? Sold for about $800 when first introduced but now for about $479. Can anyone weigh in re this model?

~ Eileen

A couple of years ago my oldest and best friend gave me a Leica D Lux 109. A truly fabulous camera, but out of your price range even used. However, according to many reviews, the Panasonic Lumix LX 100 is virtually the same camera. That can be had in or very close to your price range. I am a Nikon user, and pretty fussy about cameras and what they can do. I think the Lumix would be worth a small stretch. I can post or PM you some sample photos if you like.

I have to agree.

Thus camera looks really good, especially the low light capacity and potential for close up floral photography.

For the landscapes I believe pano is an option.

It has RAW ability.

Thank you for confirming my interest.

$500.00 is way over budget.

The sony HX99 is a little bad ass. You might be able to find one used on Ebay for 350ish. Recently I got the Sony HX80 (older model) for $90 !!!! So there are good deals out there. When it comes to "pocket cameras" I have tried them ALL (Lumix zs, Canon g's) ..... And I always go back to sony. For good zoom around $350ish - the HX series is your best bet.

Please reread post before being snarky, she said $350.ish ?.
Do you know what "?" means. I believe she is open to higher or lower prices if it fits with what she is looking for.
Do you know what "ish" means, I believe she again is open to alternatives.
And lastly, I was only being helpful trying to point her in the right direction. You have become very mean lately.
Have a great day, I will.

Hello all you experts out there -

My husband's Canon has apparently died. I’m a Nikon person but looking for recommendations for an awesome portable camera for him, around $350-ish? Definitely with a zoom, clear precise resolution…

Thank you in advance for providing me a beginning for my research.

Take a look at the Olympus TG6. I have an older version of this camera and it takes great pictures. Also was able to take pictures under water while snorkeling in Cancun Mexico on a cruise.

There are 1" sensor Superzoom pocket cameras which are in that price range if you buy last years model. My TZ100 Panasonic is packed with special abilities should you wish to use them. Canon and Sony also make 1" sensor cameras. My TZ100 was $500 when the TZ200 came out... that was 3 y ago when new comes out prices drop on the older model.

These are not Point & Shoot which is a low class name classification. But if one wishes the Auto setting will do a fine job of pointing at the subject and pressing the shoot button... but there is also things like 4K video that allow you to capture fast motion split seconds... balls leaving the bat etc. as well as many special capabilities.

Remember pocket cameras are there 24/7 when photo events happen and superzoom brings far away close.

Used Fujifilm XQ2. While a few years older than current models, the tiny XQ2 sports a 12mp X-Trans sensor that's twice the size (2/3") of the rest of the tiny camera offerings. No one else offers such a large sensor in such a small camera. It's beautifully made as well. Hard to find, but well worth the search.

That does look like a really competent camera. Decided on the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX10, older, not waterproof, but a few more features I think he will like (bigger sensor). Seems like there are a decent amount of choices out there. Thanks for sharing.

It is surprising how quickly the technology changes.

Decided to go with the Panasonic Lumix LX10. Looks like it will do the job.

Thank you for your recommendation.

If this is to be his only camara for now, I recommend making sure it has a viewfinder as well as a zoom lens that reaches at least to 600mm (equiv). I'm very happy with my DCZS80. I got mine at B & H, they pay the tax if you use their credit card.

I own and use the Panasonic LX10. It is a very capable camera. It sounds like you may be familiar with it’s features that include a 1 inch sensor. Consumers Reports rated it as one of the highest-rated advanced point-and-shoots tested. Their tested price was $500. Their numerical rating was the same as cameras costing $1500 and $1200.

Here are photos I have taken with this camera:
