My wife said the voles are killing her flowers. Black Rat Snakes love Vole Patrol Duty. If you download you can see what I believe is oak pollen on its head.

Maybe I should have lain down next to the snake for reference. He was about 5 feet long.

Very nice, sharp shots. Good to see he is on patrol doing his duty.

The best critters you can have around unless you have laying hens. Two years ago I had two black snakes visit my henhouse. They both stuffed themselves with about 6 eggs each. I carried them about 500 yards away and let them go. They were back two days. I put them in a box and drove about 10 miles away and let em go. Haven’t seen them since.
I had to decide between good mole and vole control and my eggs. I chose the eggs.

Nice shots. Good snake, bad snake, I hate them all. That's just me.

Nice shots, I get them i my yard every year. Only problem is when they get into my pool and them can't get out.

I understand your feelings. I would probably choose the eggs myself. Unless I could train the snake to eat the rodents only.

I made the mistake of showing the photos to my wife. She agrees with you. I asked her which she would rather have, the snake or the voles. She chose the voles. Thanks for viewing and the kind comment.
ps. I might think differently about snakes if I lived in your state. Here in NJ I've only twice seen rattlesnakes. No other venomous snakes that I have come across in my state
