Whether you're successful or not, you'll never actually feel the joy of accomplishment unless you love your camera.

Has this happened to you?

I've had my Canon EOS R since they were first released. I had upgraded from my beloved 6D Mark I. For too many months I've been lusting over the R5 and R6 and often even wondered if I should have bought the 5DIV instead of the R.

However I've come to realise what a terrific and tough camera the R actually is - fantastic image quality, feels like a pro camera, so far has worked impeccably and has been a reliable workhorse for my real estate work. Believe it or not I actually love this camera and I no longer lust for any other camera. I'm saving my GAS for lenses instead.

Am I mad or have I come to my senses? Have any of you come to a similar conclusion my friends?
Has this happened to you? br br I've had my Canon... (show quote)

The R is a wonderful body. I've been using mine since they 1st came out. The only use I still had for my 5D4 was timelapse with the internal intervalometer. But then I started using an external on the R and haven't used my 5D4 since.

Buy some lenses. The 15-35 is sharp as a tack. My favorite is the 28-70 (save your pennies for this one). Heavy, but well worth it...

As I am a hobbyist photographer (and don't pretend to be anything else), I'd much rather have a camera that feels like a "hobbyist camera" - a camera which feels like it was specifically tailored to my needs! I guess that would be a camera that offers a wide range of versatility.

I am a hobbyist, not a pro photographer. Not interested in and never will be. I don’t care if my cameras are “pro” cameras. Just want them to fit my needs.

I have a curious question, at least curious to me. Not owning an R camera, but watching. If my understanding correctly then new lenses must be bought for the R camera. If I've read the tea leaves correctly, it demands that I must ask: What are all new R camera owners doing with their old lenses, the ones that were used with their mirror-ed DSLR?

The various EOS "R" full frame mirrorless bodies use the RF mount. Canon makes three options to adapt Canon EF / EF-S lenses to the RF mount. So 'no', you do not have to buy new RF lenses to use an EOS R style body. The three adapter options depend on bare-bones electronic transmission of focus and aperture control to the lens, or allowing for a drop-in filter or adding a 'control ring' that mimics a new programmable control feature of native RF lenses.

Canon has formally announced they will not release any new EF lenses nor DSLRs. They've also stopped manufacture of 30+ EF / EF-S lenses as the company transitions from DSLRs to MILC.

Then I'm very glad I have my near compliment of L lenses, and a spare 5DII body.

Do you think Canon will continue to offer the service to replace the shutter once 150,000 is reached?

Bill, I'm not sure Canon offers a 'service' today to 'replace' a shutter. Especially given that DSLRs don't fail exactly at their shutter rating, if their shutter should ever fail for a given body / model. I believe the proper term is a 'repair', and something the customer pays and must decide if the repair cost is justified for a camera old enough to experience a shutter failure, typically years beyond their warranty period.

Shutters on mirrorless cameras don't operate the same either on MILCs, although the specifics differ based on the brand and model. The EOS R has two options, a silent electronic shutter that opens and stays open and a traditional mechanical. So, depending on your usage, your shutter count may / may not correspond to your image count. The shutter in the EOS R being discussed is rated to 200,000.

Mine is my Nikon-refurbed D600.
I really really loved my D7100. Really. It was like magic to me.
Then an associate wanted to sell her low-click D600. Too mant cameras.
She didn't like the way her pile of APS lenses worked on it.
Ol hubby wanted to upgrade from his D200. A deal was done.
That D600 fit me like that D7100. It works just like it. Refurbed to be a newish D610.
I'm @ 30 years older ... i have a pile of F mounts from the last century.
We all be happy. If'n it don't break, that D600 may be my last camera.

Segue: I was gifted with that no longer used D200 later. Ebay sucked.
WHY? Already had one, and a D80. It could been a D300 or something ...

I have often considered purchasing a D610. Just too busy enjoying my D50, D80, D90 and D3400 and not enough time with being locked down and social distancing. Hopefully a GAS attack may change all that.....

We;;, that's the thing.
It's kinda lie a Venn diagram.
The D610 will take different shots than that D3400- but there's a LOT of IQ overlap.
I still have old film lenses that did OK on the DXs, but work great on the FX.
If you're good with the D3400, the D610 will be a piece of cake.
I have a D3200- which took @ identical shots of my D7100 in my hands.
I still really liked the IQ of my D80- so I'm keeping it.
And Slow Butt Shirley I'm reluctantly divesting meself of my film cameras.

Check out what lenses would be good with real estate work such as what you're doing?
